Job Description

The Patient Registrar is responsible for completing pre-registration and obtaining insurance verification for all appointments for physicians, therapists, and other ancillary services in accordance with the hospital's policies and procedures. Will also perform all registration and scheduling tasks when assigned. Also, responsible for assisting the department manager with tasks that are essential for maintaining efficient daily functioning of the Revenue Cycle process.

 

The work schedule is 1 - 2 days per week, primarily Tuesdays and/or Wednesdays, with flexibility to be available other days of the week as needed. This position requires an estimated 8 - 10 hours of work per week.

Key Responsibilities:

Pre-registration Functions

  • Monitors specific queues daily and calls families/guardian to complete pre-registration functions 10 days prior to the appointment date.

  • Obtains and /or verifies all patient demographic data in SHCIS.

  • Obtains and/or verifies all patient financial information in SHCIS, with accurate documentation.

  • Communicates to the patients/families what is needed upon arrival at Shriners for registration.

  • Creates outpatient pre-registration encounter for each future appointments.

  • Communicates Temple information when necessary to patient families.

  • Works the denials report for Revenue Cycle Management.


Eligibility Verification Functions

  • Verifies insurance data for each visit using the intergraded SHCIS applications for participating providers.

  • Verifies insurance data for all other visits by utilizing their website or phone contact as appropriate.

  • Flags patients who do not have active insurance coverage to the Uninsured Work List.

  • Flags patients with an invalid or inactive response to the Insurance Denied Work List and follows up with patient/guardian to obtain updated financial information.

  • Completes Medicare Secondary Payer Questionnaire if patient is a Medicare beneficiary.

Registration & Scheduling

  • Assists in the scheduling and rescheduling of patients as needed.

  • Registers patients according to the guidelines adopted by the department and hospital as needed.

Miscellaneous Functions

  • Destroys all patient information according to department guidelines.

  • Maintains confidentiality of all patient information within the guidelines established by the department and hospital.

  • Consistently removes confidential data from the computer screen and/or secures confidential data on desk(s).

  • Assists the Revenue Cycle Manager as needed.

Required Qualifications:

  • Scheduling and registration experience

  • Computer applications experience

  • High School Diploma/GED

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate's Degree

The pay range for this position is $14.85 - $22.28. Compensation is determined based on years of relevant experience and departmental equity.
