General Function
Salary rates above include longevity, education incentive, bilingual premium, detective premium, field training officer premium, SWAT premium, and school resource officer premium which employees are not eligible to receive until a date specified by the collective bargaining agreement or assigned by the Police Chief. Additionally, a K-9 officer shall receive a K-9 stipend of 3.5 hours per week at 48% of Step 5 Police Officer overtime rate.
Provides emergency aid, security and protection to the citizens of Bremerton by patrolling business and residential areas, responding to requests for information and assistance, investigating criminal activity and otherwise ensuring the proper enforcement of laws and regulations. Example of Duties:
Patrols as directed in preventing crime and to enforce federal, state and city laws and regulations. Observes, reports, and acts on conditions conducive to crime and danger such as checking buildings for security, assisting other officers on traffic stops and checking suspicious persons and vehicles. Reports traffic hazards and directs traffic flow when necessary. Determines the nature of a call, investigates the circumstances, and takes any necessary and prudent action, such as making arrests and transporting prisoners. Searches prisoners, collects personal effects and assures proper safeguarding of personal effects. Provides assistance to the public in emergency and non-emergency situations. Administers first aid and requests medical service. Performs crisis intervention in sensitive situations such as family disputes. Provides general information to the public on laws and ordinances. Assists persons with complaints and inquiries or directs them to the appropriate authorities. Prepares a variety of records and reports, such as reports on arrests, property impounded, accidents, offenses, and damage to property; assists in searching, booking, processing and supervising prisoners. Performs investigative assignments on serious crimes. Conducts interviews of victims, witnesses and suspects and submits progress reports on cases under investigation. Collects and documents evidence and may arrest suspects. Appears in court and is available to testify in matters which the officer has knowledge of. Maintains proficiency in the use of police related equipment. Prepares and maintains legible, concise and understandable activity logs and other related or similar types of information as a personal reference record of incidents and details. Minimum Requirements:
Successful completion of the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission Basic Law Enforcement Training Academy or equivalency certificate. Current and valid Peace Officer Certification through the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission. Pass a comprehensive background investigation including financial investigation, polygraph and/or truth verification examination, psychological and medical evaluations. High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED) is required. College level work in law enforcement or related field and specialized law enforcement training are highly desired. Read, speak and write the English language. A valid Washington State driver's License with a good driving record is required. Must be a citizen or a lawful permanent resident of the United States of America. Must be twenty-one (21) years of age at time of hire.

MEDICAL AND DENTAL INSURANCE
Effective the first of the month following the date of hire, regular employees are eligible for the City's medical and dental insurance plans.
Currently, the City pays the premium for your choice of one of two health insurance plans, Kaiser Permanente or Premera Blue Cross administered by the LEOFF Health and Welfare Trust. To cover dependents you pay 10% of the dependent premium. Dependents may be added when hired, within 30 days of birth or adoption, during the annual open enrollment, or if you have a qualifying event (e.g. marriage, divorce, spouse loss of job or medical coverage). RETIREMENT
The City provides a comprehensive retirement program through the Law Enforcement Officers' and Fire Fighters' Retirement System (LEOFF). If you have an account established in LEOFF prior to October 1, 1977, Plan 1 would apply. Otherwise, you will be enrolled in Plan 2. DEFERRED COMPENSATION

The City provides a comprehensive retirement program through the Law Enforcement Officers' and Fire Fighters' Retirement System (LEOFF). If you have an account established in LEOFF prior to October 1, 1977, Plan 1 would apply. Otherwise, you will be enrolled in Plan 2. DEFERRED COMPENSATION
You may choose from several plans. The City will match your contribution up to 5.5% of your base monthly wage. You may contribute with up to the IRS maximum annual combined (employer and employee). LIFE INSURANCE
The City provides life insurance coverage in the amount of $200,000. For additional benefit information, click
