Plumber-ApprenticeReports to: Facility Trades SupervisorDept./School: MaintenanceWage/Hour Status: NonexemptPay Grade: Auxiliary 4/260 DaysDate Revised: 3/26/2026Primary Purpose:Under supervision, maintain the flow and drainage of water, air, and other gases by assembling, installing and repairing pipes, fittings, and plumbing fixtures district-wide. Maintain and provide for the safe condition and operation of all plumbing systems in district facilities.Qualifications:Education/Certification:High school diploma or GEDValid Texas driver's licenseValid Apprentice Plumber licenseSpecial Knowledge/Skills:Knowledge of plumbing repairs, maintenance, and installation techniquesKnowledge of plumbing codesAbility to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, schematics, and written reference materialAbility to perform mathematical calculationsAbility to diagnose and resolve problemsAbility to use hand and power toolsExperience:1 year experience in plumbing fieldMajor Responsibilities and Duties:Maintenance and Repair Plumbing Systems:Assemble, install, maintain, and pressure test all pipes, fittings, and fixtures of heating, water, drainage, sprinkler, and gas systems according to specifications and plumbing codes.Determine sources of plumbing malfunctions and complete repairs as indicated or according to work orders.Install and repair pipes, fittings, valves, fixtures, and plumbing systems equipment, including sinks, commodes, water heaters, water softeners, etc.Repair dishwashers and kitchen equipment that incorporate gas or water consumption.Select material and hardware and make time and materials estimates.Maintain inventory of district-owned tools, equipment, and materials.Inspect jobs upon completion and ensure areas are clean.Work with building principals and supervisors to complete projects.Detect needed repairs on buildings, grounds, and equipment following established inspection procedures.Respond to emergency calls as needed.Meet the eligibility requirements to drive district vehicles.Regular AttendanceOther duties assigned by supervisorIt is the responsibility of each employee that all tasks be conducted in a safe and efficient manner complying with all local, state and federal safety and health regulations, programmatic standards, and special safety concerns identified by WFISD for use in a particular area or with a student. Failure to follow WFISD's safety and health procedures or conduct that places the employee, student, volunteer, or property at risk may lead to employee disciplinary action or termination.Supervisory Responsibilities: Plumber Apprentice (Tech)Equipment Used: Hand and power tools; pipe bender; propane torch; welding equipment; sewer rooter; heavy equipment, including forklift, trencher, backhoe.Mental Demands: Reading and basic math, maintain emotional control under stress and demanding situations.Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Must have good physical coordination, flexibility, balance, and upper body strength to allow twisting and turning of upper torso while handling components/tools weighing up to 75 lbs.; ability to climb into and work in confined spaces. Will occasionally lift and carry weights of 100 lbs. for short distances. Work outside and inside; exposure to hot and cold temperatures; work weekends/irregular hours as directed. Long-term standing, climbing, stooping, bending, and kneeling. May be subject to chemical/mechanical hazards. Ability to tolerate moderate amounts of dust/fumes, cold/wet/muddy places and under buildings.
