Job Title: Electrophysiology RN Profession: RN Specialty: Electrophysiology RN Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 3x12 hour shifts Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: 2 years License: RN License (New York) Certifications: BLS (American Heart Association) Must-Have: The ability to communicate effectively with physicians and in-room staff. Proficient in moderate sedation. Description: The Electrophysiology RN functions primarily as either the primary nurse or a circulator. As the primary nurse, the responsibility includes patient assessment, medication and safety review, clinical documentation, communication, and coordination of care before, during, and immediately following electrophysiology procedures. Prior to entering the procedure room, the RN reviews the patient’s medical history, medications, allergies, laboratory results, IV access, procedural orders, and other pertinent clinical information. The RN identifies patient-specific risks or needs and coordinates with the electrophysiologist, anesthesia, advanced practice providers, and other members of the interdisciplinary team. During the procedure, the RN maintains a patient-focused role, including ongoing assessment and medication administration within scope and order parameters. Moderate sedation may be administered when applicable. Procedural and safety documentation is performed using electronic systems. Communication of changes in patient condition to the procedural team is essential. The RN works closely with anesthesia during anesthetized procedures. Backup pacing support during cardiac implant procedures is provided as required. The RN also functions as a circulator, which includes obtaining and opening sterile supplies, pulling equipment, assisting with room setup and turnover, and ensuring necessary equipment is available throughout the procedure. The RN assists at the sterile field with basic patient and equipment preparation and the preparation of sterile tables as needed. The RN assists in facilitating room turnover and ensures on-time starts for timely patient care. Coordination with charge nurse and third-party vendors is necessary to ensure all team members will be available for scheduled procedures. Typical procedures performed include PFA and RF ablations for arrhythmias, various device implants, and more. Cardiac implant or structural heart scrub experience is preferred but not required.
