The Laboratory Technologist II is responsible for carrying out research activities under the direction of the Principal Investigator and/or laboratory supervisor. This individual provides technical expertise to support the Principal Investigator's research program. Assists with ensuring all laboratory staff follow and adhere to safety and all applicable health policies and regulations.

Work Shift

Key Responsibilities:

• 30% Conduct experiments for research projects. Carry out molecular laboratory experiments and conduct analysis of ddpcr and other data and interpret results. Works with the Principal Investigator and laboratory supervisory to carry out the activities of a high-complexity molecular laboratory focused on development and validation of ctDNA-based assays.
• 30% Performs specialized molecular examinations and procedures for the development, optimization, and validation of advanced assays for low-frequency variant detection.
• 20% Documents all research activities in approved laboratory notebooks (ELN) and updates data analyses as needed. Follows IRB, human subjects, ACUC, and other State, Institutional and Federal regulatory protocols, as needed. Ensures laboratory activities are conducted in accordance with institutional and regulatory requirements and accepted scientific standards.
• 10% Generate reports as needed for the evaluation of project progress and performance.
• 10% Purchasing and Inventory Management: Assist laboratory supervisor in managing research inventory, ordering, and stocking of supplies and reagents.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor of Science degree in medical technology, microbiology, biochemistry or a closely related field and relevant experience in a clinical or research laboratory environment.
• Minimum of 2 years of relevant laboratory experience, preferably in an academic, translational, or biotechnology setting
• Demonstrated experience with next-generation sequencing (NGS), digital droplet PCR (ddPCR), liquid handling/automation platforms, and related molecular assay platforms and techniques preferred
• Strong organizational and project management skills

Minimum Requirements: A bachelor's degree in a related medical or scientific discipline; or an associate degree or equivalent technical training in a related medical, scientific or technical discipline and two years journey-level work experience in a related field. (Continuous) Ability to maintain hearing acuity, with correction. (Continuous) Ability to perform gross motor functions with frequent fine motor movements. (Continuous) Ability to be qualified physically (by medical personnel) for respirator use, initially and annually. Ability to work alone in isolated areas, such as darkrooms. (Frequent) Additional New Requirements: Ability to obtain and maintain a valid drivers license. Computer literacy. Ability to work rotating shifts as required. Ability to work overtime as required. Ability to learn and use new processes, tools and equipment as required.
