Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Database Administrator II to join our IT Infrastructure team. This senior-level role is responsible for the administration, optimization, security, and availability of enterprise database environments. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience managing large-scale Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server databases while providing strategic guidance for database architecture, performance tuning, disaster recovery, and data security initiatives.

The Database Administrator III will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure database systems support business objectives, maintain optimal performance, and adhere to organizational security and compliance requirements. This position also serves as a technical leader and mentor for database-related projects and initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Database Performance & Availability

• Manage and maintain enterprise Oracle and SQL Server database environments.
• Monitor database performance and proactively identify opportunities for optimization.
• Ensure high availability, reliability, and uptime of critical database systems.
• Analyze and resolve performance bottlenecks, system issues, and database failures.

Database Design & Implementation

• Design, implement, and maintain database architectures that support business and operational requirements.
• Evaluate and recommend database technologies and solutions that improve scalability and efficiency.
• Support application development teams in database design, optimization, and implementation.

Data Security & Compliance

• Implement and maintain database security standards, policies, and best practices.
• Manage user access controls, permissions, encryption, and auditing mechanisms.
• Ensure compliance with organizational, regulatory, and industry data protection standards.

Backup & Disaster Recovery

• Develop, maintain, and test backup and disaster recovery strategies.
• Ensure database recovery objectives meet business continuity requirements.
• Perform regular recovery validation exercises and disaster recovery testing.

Database Upgrades & Maintenance

• Plan and execute database upgrades, migrations, patching, and maintenance activities.
• Evaluate and apply security updates and performance enhancements.
• Minimize business disruption during system maintenance and upgrade activities.

Capacity Planning & Optimization

• Monitor database growth and resource utilization trends.
• Develop long-term capacity planning strategies to ensure scalability.
• Recommend hardware and software improvements to support future business needs.

Technical Leadership

• Serve as a subject matter expert for database technologies and best practices.
• Mentor junior database administrators and provide technical guidance.
• Lead database-related projects and support enterprise technology initiatives.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Partner with application, infrastructure, cybersecurity, and business teams.
• Participate in strategic planning and enterprise architecture discussions.
• Support mission-critical business applications and operational systems.

Troubleshooting & Support

• Provide advanced-level support for database-related incidents and issues.
• Participate in on-call support rotations and provide 24x7 support coverage when required.
• Perform root cause analysis and implement preventive solutions.

Continuous Improvement

• Identify opportunities to automate administrative tasks and improve operational efficiency.
• Develop and maintain database documentation, standards, and procedures.
• Stay current with emerging database technologies and industry best practices.

Strategic Responsibilities

The Database Administrator II plays a significant role in developing and implementing database management strategies that align with organizational IT and business objectives. This includes:

• Developing database performance, capacity, and scalability strategies.
• Supporting digital transformation and cloud adoption initiatives.
• Driving improvements in database security, reliability, and operational efficiency.
• Recommending technology solutions that enhance business outcomes.
• Leading implementation efforts for strategic database initiatives and modernization projects.

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related discipline preferred.

Experience

• Minimum of 5-7 years of hands-on experience administering large-scale Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server database environments.
• Proven experience with database performance tuning, backup and recovery, security management, and high availability solutions.
• Experience supporting mission-critical enterprise systems and applications.

Technical Skills

• Strong expertise in Oracle Database Administration.
• Strong expertise in Microsoft SQL Server Administration.
• Experience with database monitoring, troubleshooting, and performance optimization.
• Knowledge of database backup, recovery, and disaster recovery planning.
• Experience implementing database security controls and compliance requirements.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
