Facilities Technician

Sceye, Inc.

Facilities Technician

Status: Exempt, Full Time

Location: Moriarty, NM

Reports To: Facilities Manager

Who Are We:

Sceye is a high-growth technology company, building the next generation of instant communications, imaging and remote sensing infrastructure through stratospheric platforms. Our lighter-than-air high-altitude platform systems (LTA HAPS) are capable of maintaining position over an operational area in the stratosphere (altitudes of 18 - 21km). They can carry multiple telecommunications, imaging and remote sensing payloads, providing unique functionality, cost, environmental and societal advantages.

Our customers & partners include some of the largest global telecommunications companies, infrastructure operators, climate researchers, civil and defense agencies. At Sceye, we aim high, and we want you to join us at the stratospheric edge of innovation. As part of our mission-driven team, you'll contribute to building breakthrough technologies that are changing the way we connect and observe the world. We are looking for individuals who bring not only deep expertise but also bold vision and an unwavering commitment to excellence.

About the Position:

Sceye is seeking a highly hands-on, mechanically skilled Facilities Technician to support the daily maintenance, repair, and operational readiness of our facilities in Moriarty, New Mexico. This role is primarily focused on facility maintenance, with additional responsibilities supporting HAPS ground operations during flight campaigns when needed.

The ideal candidate enjoys working with their hands, has practical experience in plumbing, carpentry, building repairs, and general maintenance, and can confidently troubleshoot and resolve routine issues without relying on outside contractors. This is not a desk-based facilities position. When flight operations are underway, this individual may also work alongside Operations and Engineering to assist with HAPS preparation, launch, and recovery.

What You'll Do:

Facilities Maintenance & Repairs - Primary Responsibilities
• Perform hands-on maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs throughout Sceye's facilities, buildings, and surrounding property.
• Diagnose and repair common plumbing issues, including leaks, faucets, toilets, drains, fixtures, and minor piping repairs within the scope of training and authorization.
• Perform general building maintenance, including roofing, carpentry, drywall repairs, painting, door and hardware repairs, shelving installation, and minor construction projects.
• Safely operate hand and power tools, including drills, saws, grinders, impact drivers, and other maintenance equipment.
• Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve mechanical and facility-related issues with minimal supervision.
• Perform preventive maintenance and routine inspections to identify potential issues before they impact operations.
• Assist with basic maintenance of HVAC, electrical, and mechanical systems within the scope of training and authorization; coordinate specialized repairs as needed.
• Assemble, install, modify, and repair furniture, fixtures, workstations, and facility equipment.
• Maintain outdoor areas, storage spaces, and facility grounds in a safe and functional condition.
• Support facility improvement projects, equipment installations, and workspace modifications.
• Maintain and organize tools, equipment, maintenance materials, and supplies.
• Coordinate with outside vendors and contractors for specialized repairs or projects.
• Respond to unexpected maintenance issues and prioritize repairs based on operational needs.
• Operating Sceye's heavy machinery including company vehicles.

HAPS Ground Crew & Flight Operations - Secondary Responsibilities as required
• Assist the Operations team with HAPS preparation, launch, recovery, and post-flight activities during flight campaigns.
• Support setup, movement, inspection, and breakdown of ground support equipment.
• Assist with safe handling, positioning, and securing of HAPS components and equipment.
• Perform basic mechanical assembly, adjustments, and troubleshooting as directed by Operations and Engineering.
• Support flight readiness by preparing tools, equipment, and operational areas.
• Follow established safety procedures and operational instructions during flight activities.
• Work collaboratively with ground crew members and other departments to support successful flight operations.
• Adapt to changing schedules and operational priorities during flight campaigns.
• Willingness to travel to our Roswell NM location.

What We're Looking For:
• High school diploma or equivalent required; vocational or technical training in maintenance, construction, or mechanical trades preferred.
• 2+ years of demonstrated hands-on experience in facilities maintenance, building maintenance, construction, industrial maintenance, or a related trade.
• Strong working knowledge of plumbing, carpentry, general building repairs, and mechanical maintenance.
• Proven ability to safely and effectively use hand and power tools to perform repairs, installations, and maintenance tasks.
• Demonstrated ability to independently troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve common facility maintenance issues.
• Experience personally performing repairs rather than solely coordinating or supervising maintenance activities.
• Basic familiarity with building systems, including plumbing, HVAC, electrical, and mechanical equipment.
• Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting, carrying, bending, standing, and working outdoors.
• Comfortable in a hands-on environment where daily tasks and priorities may change.
• Strong attention to detail, safety awareness, and practical problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaborate with Operations, Engineering, and other teams.
• Willingness to learn HAPS ground support procedures and participate in flight operations as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience in commercial or industrial building maintenance.
• Background in construction, plumbing, carpentry, mechanical repair, or general trades.
• Experience maintaining facilities that support manufacturing, engineering, or industrial operations.
• Experience with basic fabrication, equipment installation, or mechanical assembly.
• Familiarity with preventive maintenance procedures and equipment inspections.
• Experience operating forklifts, lifts, or material-handling equipment with appropriate authorization.
• Previous experience supporting aviation, aerospace, manufacturing, or field operations.

What We Offer:

At Sceye, we're building more than high-altitude platforms-we're building a workplace where people (and their pups) thrive. Here's what you'll enjoy:
• Chef-Prepared Lunches - Fresh, onsite meals to keep you fueled and focused.
• Snacks & Refreshments - Enjoy a variety of snacks and drinks available throughout the day.
• Wellness Perks - Access to a gym, pickleball court, and an outdoor dog kennel.
• Dog-Friendly Environment - Bring your four-legged friends to work and enjoy a pet-welcoming space.
• Comprehensive Health Coverage - Medical, dental, vision, and disability insurance, with over 82% of premiums covered-and 100% for everything else.
• 401(k) with Match - Company contributions that are yours from day one.
• High-Performance Culture - Join a collaborative, inclusive environment where your work helps shape the future of aerospace.

We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, age, disability, veteran status, or any other legally protected status.
