Nights; 5:45 PM - 6:15 AM (Rotating)

This is a 13-week contract position.

The Respiratory Therapist is responsible for providing cardiopulmonary care services in accordance with specific physician orders and department policies and procedures. This role assesses, treats, and cares for patients with breathing disorders, initiates therapeutic procedures, and maintains patient records while effectively operating respiratory care equipment.

Responsibilities

• Perform accurate and complete respiratory assessments of patients; conduct initial screenings and reassessments.
• Determine treatment requirements including type, method, duration, and precautions.
• Formulate and evaluate teaching plans for patients and families regarding pain management and discharge planning.
• Monitor physiological responses to therapy and consult with physicians when adverse reactions occur.
• Prepare and administer respiratory medications; demonstrate knowledge of outcomes and side effects.
• Conduct tests such as holter monitoring and lung capacity tests to evaluate cardiopulmonary functions.
• Maintain department equipment and ensure proper documentation in both electronic and chart form.
• Participate in performance improvement activities to ensure a safe environment for patients.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Current Illinois Respiratory Therapist License.
• BLS (Basic Life Support), ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support), NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program), and PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certifications required.
• Minimum of 1 year of experience in Respiratory Therapy preferred.
• Strong computer skills with the ability to navigate EMR programs.
