Transit Operations Coordinator

Position Highlights This position will support the daily transportation operations to ensure program effectiveness and team consistency in providing safe and reliable transit service for the University students, staff, and community members, and report improvement opportunities and concerns to the Transit Operations Manager. The coordinator will ensure program operations are conducted according to department and industry standards and policy. They will maintain consistent service by monitoring routes, vehicle readiness, and real‑time transit systems while ensuring operations align with standards. The position partners closely with drivers and team members, provides operational support, and communicates issues or improvement opportunities to the Transit Operations Manager. Responsibilities Deliver high-quality, customer-focused service to students, faculty, staff, and campus visitors. Support the daily operations of the transportation program and assist team members in achieving operational goals. Oversee opening and/or closing procedures to ensure smooth daily operations. Manage route operations by updating routes, posting service alerts, monitoring vehicle tracking systems, and ensuring riders receive accurate and timely information. Review and analyze daily vehicle inspection reports to determine vehicle assignments, maintenance priorities, and service readiness. Serve as the primary point of contact for maintenance vendors and repair facilities, including coordinating vehicle repairs and transporting vehicles as needed. Assist with employee scheduling and shift coverage to maintain uninterrupted service. Support the onboarding and training of new employees and provide ongoing training and guidance to current staff. Assist with transportation operations by operating vehicles when necessary to maintain service levels. Collaborate closely with fellow Transportation Coordinators to ensure daily operational objectives are met and service disruptions are minimized. Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned to support the overall success of the transportation program. Monitor Transloc information for accuracy and reliability. Collaborate with other Transportation Coordinators to determine appropriate reroute/detour as needed. Responsible for troubleshooting tablets, maintenance, and support. Ensure fleet is maintained according to department and industry standards and policy. Oversee the accuracy and conditions of Cat Tran signs and stops. Serve as a liaison to construction contractors and city employees. Develop and maintain a comprehensive fleet maintenance plan for Transit Operations Manager's approval. Responsible for completing fleet's annual safety inspections and emissions. Collaborates with other Lead Coordinators to ensure Standard Operating Procedures, Performance Standards and University Policies are followed. Support program operations and report improvement opportunities and improvements to Transit Operations Manager. Works with Transit Operations Manager to provide feedback for team's annual Career Conversations. Serve as coordinator during Special Events, including overseeing day‑of football game operations. Work Environment Outdoor Environment: Employees work outdoors and may not be protected from weather conditions. Extreme Heat: Temperatures above 100 degrees for more than an hour. Noise: There is sufficient noise to cause you to shout in order to be heard above the noise level. Hazards: Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, or exposure to chemicals in work setting. Oils: There is air or skin exposure to oils or other cutting fluids. Position requires walking between campus buildings and designated transfer locations to access and operate buses. Walking may occur in various weather conditions and across different types of terrain and walking surfaces. Physical Requirements Lifting/moving up to 20 pounds often. Lifting/moving up to 50 pounds rarely. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent learning attained through experience required. A minimum of seven (7) years of relevant professional experience is required. Must have a valid driver's license and ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy . Preferred Qualifications A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with passenger endorsement is preferred. Applicants who do not currently possess a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) are encouraged to apply. Upon hire, the University of Arizona will cover the cost of the required CDL training course. Because this position requires operation of CDL-class vehicles, the selected candidate must successfully complete the CDL training program and obtain the appropriate CDL and endorsements within the timeframe established by the department as a condition of continued employment. Employees who will operate vehicles requiring a CDL on University business must have held a valid driver's license for a minimum of three (3) years prior to driving in a CDL capacity.
