This role supports nursing and medical staff in the operating room (OR), pre-operative, and post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) by facilitating communication, ensuring regulatory compliance, optimizing efficiency, and promoting patient safety and satisfaction. The RN Coordinator also assists in training and mentoring nursing staff and supporting departmental quality improvement initiatives.Essential FunctionsCoordinate multidisciplinary surgical care, ensuring timely and safe patient transitions across pre-op, intraop, and PACU phasesAct as clinical liaison between OR staff, surgeons, anesthesia providers, and ancillary departmentsProvide hands-on support during surgical procedures and pre/post-op care as neededPromote adherence to aseptic technique, infection prevention, and regulatory standardsSupport operating room scheduling, case preparation, and staff assignmentsParticipate in departmental quality improvement projects and data collection effortsConduct daily rounding on surgical patients and assist with patient/family communication and educationServe as a mentor and resource to surgical nursing staff, facilitating ongoing education and clinical competencySupport equipment readiness and surgical supply management in collaboration with the materials management teamKnowledge/Skills/Abilities/ExpectationsStrong understanding of surgical procedures, patient safety, and perioperative nursing standardsExcellent organizational, interpersonal, and critical thinking skillsKnowledge of electronic medical records and scheduling systemsFamiliarity with Joint Commission standards and CMS regulations relevant to surgical servicesAbility to lead by example in a dynamic, fast-paced clinical environmentAbility to stand for prolonged periods and assist with patient positioning and transferMust be able to lift up to 50 poundsRequires dexterity for handling surgical instruments and operating equipmentHospital-based surgical services, including OR and PACUExposure to blood, body fluids, and surgical instrumentationUse of personal protective equipment (PPE) requiredFast-paced and high-acuity clinical settingQualificationsEducationAssociate Degree in Nursing (ADN), requiredBachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Master's in Nursing, Healthcare Management, or Administration, preferredLicenses/CertificationsCurrent RN license in the applicable state or compact state, requiredBasic Life Support (BLS) certification within timeframe required by facility policyAdvanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), preferred or as required by facility policyExperienceMinimum of two (2) years of perioperative or surgical services nursing experience requiredLeadership, charge nurse, or coordination experience preferred ScionHealth
