Summary Provides competent clinical nursing care consistent with professional standards. Reporting and accountable to the Nurse Manager/Director, the Clinical Nurse is responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care utilizing the nursing process in a hospital setting. Responsibilities Education – Participate in identifying and meeting learning needs of self, attend education programs, use patient education materials relevant to patient population, assess readiness to learn, assess developmental level of patient and factors affecting ability to learn. Evaluation of Care – Identify expected patient outcomes, seek guidance as needed in revision of plan of care, participate in discussion with interdisciplinary team in evaluation of patient care, communicate relevant information to promote continuity of care. Implementation – Demonstrate competence in care of patients with complex problems, perform bedside point of care testing as required, utilize nursing standards, policies and procedures in delivery of care, organize and prioritize care according to patient/family needs, consult with appropriate resources regarding high risk discharge planning. Leadership – Develop goals to promote professional growth or minimize limitations, achieve goals within identified time frame or renegotiate, be knowledgeable about activities which facilitate intra/interdepartmental collaboration, participate in unit goals and performance‑improvement activities, use communication systems effectively, promote cost‑effective care, give feedback to co‑workers, be aware of public policy and regulatory guidelines, promote a safe, clean and secure environment. Patient Assessment – Recognize data from complex situations to determine priorities for care, synthesize assessment data into meaningful whole, assess and anticipate discharge needs, develop relationships with families that promote their ability to advocate. Planning – Collaborate with patient/family to prepare/up­date plan of care, use multidisciplinary resources, use full range of communication, identify and address cultural and ethnic issues, prioritize tasks for patients with complex problems. Research – Read journals containing applicable studies or articles, bring ideas and questions to staff for assessment of applicability. Eligibility Education Requirements: Graduation from a school of professional nursing. Licensure/Certification Requirements: Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina. Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification. Professional Experience Requirements: One (1) year of nursing experience.
