Commercial Construction Site Laborer Job Description: This position is for a project anticipated to last approximately two years. Once it is complete or labor services are no longer necessary, which could be earlier than two years, you will be given the opportunity to be reassigned to another HITT job, though it may not be in the same or surrounding work location. As a Commercial Construction Site Laborer, you will perform a variety of tasks involving physical labor at varying tenant improvement, base building, specialty, and new construction projects within Columbia, South Carolina and the surrounding area while always focused on safety and quality. You must be flexible and available for both day and night work, overtime, and able to perform strenuous physical labor inside or outside at varying heights, using fall protection and harnesses. This position will report directly to HITT’s onsite superintendent or site operations leader and will be in daily contact with multiple subcontractors and HITT employees. Onsite protocols will be adhered to and dictated by contract, client, building, and safety requirements. Responsibilities Perform a variety of tasks involving strenuous manual labor in commercial construction project settings. Clean and prepare job sites: remove trash, rubble, waste and debris; vacuum, sweep, wipe down and mop. Maintain a clean job site: install protection and signage; pick up and organize tools and equipment; secure job site each day to eliminate potential safety hazards. Clean and stock restrooms, bathrooms, and temporary facilities. Set up and maintain office trailers, construction entrances, and grounds keeping. Install and maintain temporary fencing and gates. Erect and disassemble ladders, scaffolding, barriers, etc. Load and unload trucks; carry material up to 75 pounds and, with help, up to 150 pounds. Perform materials handling and storage. Perform landscaping duties including pulling weeds, hedging bushes, trees, and mowing. Digs holes, ditches, and trenches; shovel dirt, gravel, and snow. Use and relocate pumps, generators, and hoses for removing water, filling tanks, or cleaning surfaces. Chip concrete or mix, pour, and smooth concrete. Grind, scrape, sand, and polish various construction materials including drywall, wood, concrete, and Terrazzo. Apply paint to surfaces including wood, metal, walls, sidewalks, curbs, etc. Provide foot and vehicle traffic control flagger coordination. Operate and maintain material hoists. Escort and provide security and monitoring for personnel and equipment. Provide assistance to carpenters and other trades as needed. Perform administrative tasks onsite or in the office to help facilitate ongoing operations. HITT Contracting is an equal opportunity employer.
