The Dental Program works with many community partners, targeting underserved populations in Multnomah County to ensure access to dental services including providing education, prevention and dental treatment.As the Dental Assistant (EFDA) you will:Clinical Functions and Provider SupportProvides direct clinical assistance and support to Dentists and Dental HygienistsPerforms all aspects of 4-handed dentistry using effective and efficient techniques; mixes materials; places rubber dam; takes study models impressions.Anticipates provider needs during treatment. Keeps the provider informed of all schedule changes and unfilled appointments. Triages emergency patients, makes providers aware of clients needs.Performs Dental Assisting and expanded functions, including rubber cup prophylaxis, applying sealants, polishing amalgams, placing/removing matrix retainers, removes excess cement and placing temporary restorations.Resources Management/Infection ControlSets up and disinfects operatories following the proper procedures ensuring all instruments and supplies are available for patient care.Reports necessary repair needs, observes Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) guidelines and monitors supply (Inventory) levels.Customer ServiceInteracts with patients in a respectful and courteous manner. Proactively monitors client wait times and ensures patients are kept informed of schedule delays.Conducts phone follow-up and documentation for missed patient appointments. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be as noted below. All non-traditional education, training, and experience will be evaluated.Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.Possession of an appropriate and valid certificate of Expanded Function Dental Assistant, including a certification of radiologic proficiency issued by the Oregon State Board of Dental Examiners (A graduate from an accredited dental assistant program)BLS CPR Certification or ability to obtain certification within 30 days of hire.Successful completion of a program accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association is a prerequisite for performing the application of pit and fissure sealants. Successful completion of courses of instruction required prior to certification.Preferred Qualification: One (1) year of responsible dental assistant experience.Transferable skills: Your transferable skills are any skills you have gained through education, work experience (including the military) or life experience that are relevant for this position.
