The Pediatric LPN plays an essential role in monitoring each child’s health, administering medications and treatments, supporting respiratory and nutritional needs, and ensuring care is delivered safely in accordance with physician orders and individualized plans of care. This position requires strong pediatric clinical awareness, compassion, reliability, and the ability to recognize and respond appropriately to changes in a child’s condition. The Pediatric LPN works closely with RNs, respiratory therapists, CNAs, families, and other members of the interdisciplinary care team. Reports to: Director of Nursing (DON) Key Responsibilities Pediatric Nursing Care & Health Monitoring Provide direct pediatric nursing care in accordance with physician orders and individualized plans of care Perform focused nursing assessments at the beginning of each shift and as needed Monitor pediatric residents for changes in respiratory, physical, neurological, emotional, or behavioral condition Collect, document, and interpret vital signs and other health-related observations Recognize changes in condition and initiate appropriate interventions or escalation Maintain each child’s comfort, safety, dignity, and overall well‑being Respiratory & Medically Complex Care Support pediatric residents requiring tracheostomy, ventilator, oxygen, suctioning, and other respiratory care Monitor respiratory status and recognize signs of respiratory distress or changes from baseline Provide tracheostomy and airway care within the LPN scope of practice and established care plan Collaborate closely with Respiratory Therapists, RNs, and clinical leadership regarding respiratory needs Support children with G‑tubes, enteral feeding, and other complex medical needs as assigned Follow individualized emergency protocols and physician orders for medically complex pediatric residents Medication Administration & Treatments Administer medications safely and accurately in accordance with physician orders and the seven rights of medication administration Perform ordered nursing treatments within the LPN scope of practice Monitor residents for medication effectiveness, side effects, and adverse reactions Maintain accurate and timely Medication Administration Records (MARs) Promptly communicate medication or treatment concerns to the appropriate clinical provider Family-Centered Care & Collaboration Develop positive and professional relationships with pediatric residents and their families Communicate effectively and compassionately regarding resident needs, observations, and care Collaborate with RNs, Respiratory Therapists, CNAs, physicians, support coordinators, and other interdisciplinary team members Participate in care planning and support continuity of care across shifts and disciplines Respect family preferences while ensuring care remains consistent with physician orders and organizational standards Activities of Daily Living & Developmental Support Assist with mobility, transfers, positioning, feeding, hygiene, and other activities of daily living as needed Support each child’s developmental needs, abilities, and level of independence Encourage age- and developmentally appropriate engagement and participation when possible Preserve resident dignity, privacy, comfort, and independence throughout care Documentation & Compliance Complete nursing documentation accurately and timely within the electronic health record Document assessments, interventions, treatments, medications, and changes in condition Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and organizational requirements Follow infection prevention, pediatric safety, and clinical care standards Participate in quality assurance, competency, and compliance initiatives as required Safety & Emergency Response Respond appropriately to pediatric medical emergencies and changes in resident condition Follow individualized emergency and respiratory response protocols Ensure emergency equipment, respiratory equipment, and medical supplies are readily accessible and functioning properly Maintain a safe environment for pediatric residents, families, and staff Communicate and elevate clinical concerns promptly according to established protocols Pediatric Resident Advocacy Advocate for each child’s safety, dignity, preferences, and individualized needs Provide compassionate emotional support to pediatric residents and their families Promote a nurturing environment where children feel safe, respected, and supported Encourage resident and family participation in care decisions whenever appropriate Qualifications Active Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in the State of Florida required Nursing diploma or applicable nursing education required Pediatric nursing experience strongly preferred Experience caring for medically complex pediatric patients preferred Experience with ventilator and tracheostomy care strongly preferred Pediatric home health, private duty nursing, PICU, NICU, pediatric long‑term care, or similar experience is a plus Experience with G‑tubes, enteral feeding, suctioning, oxygen therapy, and other complex care needs preferred Strong pediatric assessment, observation, and communication skills Ability to recognize and appropriately escalation changes in patient condition Compassionate and family‑centered approach to pediatric care Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with an interdisciplinary clinical team Ability to travel between assigned locations as needed Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, and during inclement weather when required Ability to lift, move, push, or pull 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation Current
