Controls Engineer

Compensation: $45-$58/hour DOE

Location: Fort Collins, CO -- MUST RESIDE in Northern Colorado

Schedule: Flexible | Approximately 20-40 Hours Per Week Based on Project Load

Position Type: Long-term Contract (W2) with potential for permanent placement. Must be eligible to work in US without sponsorship.

How you'll spend your time as a Controls Engineer:

• Create, update, and maintain electrical schematics and wiring documentation using AutoCAD Electrical.
• Support control system upgrades and retrofit projects for existing filament winding equipment.
• Troubleshoot motors, drives, sensors, and machine control systems.
• Modify and improve controls documentation to support customer installations and future serviceability.
• Assist with component selection and purchasing activities.
• Collaborate with customers, vendors, and internal resources to support successful project execution.
• Participate in machine testing, startup, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities based on your experience and interests.
• Support the continued development and expansion of custom manufacturing equipment solutions.

Skills & experience we'd like you to have as a Controls Engineer:

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
• Experience designing, troubleshooting, or supporting industrial machine control systems.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD and AutoCAD Electrical.
• Ability to read and create electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and controls documentation.
• Experience working with industrial machinery, custom equipment, or manufacturing systems.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating with customers and project stakeholders.
• Comfortable working in a flexible, project-driven environment where priorities may shift as new opportunities arise.

Preferred Qualifications:

• PLC programming and troubleshooting experience.
• Motion control and servo systems experience.
• Machine commissioning, startup, or field service experience.
• Experience with custom machinery, automation equipment, or retrofit projects.
• Aerospace, composites, or advanced manufacturing experience.
• Consulting, contract, or project-based engineering experience.
• Engineering students, early-career engineers, experienced controls engineers, and semi-retired professionals with relevant skills are encouraged to apply.
