Assistant Estimator

Assistant Estimator The Assistant Estimator is responsible for supporting the estimating department personnel by performing assigned quantity takeoffs and additional tasks. The assistant estimator provides takeoffs, estimates, and bid coverage during the pre‑construction and construction phases of a project. Salary: $70,000.00 to $80,000.00. Compensation may vary based on experience and qualifications. Ranges and rates may take into consideration benefits, bonus, and other factors. Essential Functions Estimate / Procurement Process Responsible for a complete estimate process and submission, to be reviewed with the Lead Estimator and Director of Estimating prior to client submission. Responsible for a complete procurement process finalizing award of each trade contract required for a project. Assist with preparation of presentation documents, summary sheets, trade backup, qualifications/clarifications, special studies and estimating documents. Communication Assist with managing communications with the client, design team, trade contractors, and in‑house staff during preconstruction, estimating and procurement exercises. Scopes of Work Responsible for creation of scopes assigned along with a complete review of project documents specific to each trade during the estimate process. Responsible for creation of scopes assigned that can be used to level all received proposals. Responsible for expansion and creation of scopes assigned along with a complete review of project documents specific to each trade to complete the and minimize scope gaps. Assist and Track with completing major scopes. Takeoffs Responsible for quantity take‑offs of trades assigned. Responsible for takeoffs to support the Lead and Department. Responsible for all takeoffs as needed by the estimating team and Lead Estimator. Trade Contractor Coverage Responsible for trade contractor coverage for trades assigned on each estimate. Responsible for managing/ performing trade contractor outreach. Assist with obtaining cost proposals from trade contractors on all trades. Labor/ MWBE/ Union Responsible for meeting labor requirements including but not limited to union participation, local participation along with any required MWBE compliance and participation on each project. Cost Analysis Responsible for preparation of cost estimates electronically by outlining material, labor, equipment, subcontractor, and overhead costs in a per unit breakdown. Assist with preparation of cost estimates performed by other department staff. Project Documents Responsible for analyzing project documents for completeness. Responsible for logging of all documents. Prequal Process Responsible for completion of the trade contractor prequal process. Industry Knowledge / Resource Development Assist with resource development/ maintenance on products, vendors, trade contractors, government requirements, etc. for complete and up to date estimates. Personnel Development Responsible for improving direct reports’ performance of their essential functions and competencies to help them advance. Delegate tasks based upon workload and skill set. Provide oversight, coaching, training, and feedback on a regular basis, ensuring that direct reports understand their roles. Work Environment This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet. The employee must regularly lift or move up to 10 pounds and frequently lift or move up to 25 pounds. Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands and fingers, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift or move up to 10 pounds and frequently lift or move up to 25 pounds. Position Type/Expected Hours of Work This is a full‑time, non‑exempt position. The days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:0 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. Travel No regular travel is expected for this position if in office. Travel to and from a job site if placed in the field. Education Associate or bachelor’s degree in construction management, architecture, engineering, business, accounting, or financing.
