Phlebotomist Sr-Boerne, Tx

Overview Texas Oncology is looking for a Phlebotomist to join our team at the Boerne, TX location. Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Role Summary Under direct supervision, the Phlebotomist is responsible for collecting and processing specimens from patients, following quality assurance and safety policies, assisting with patient flow, proper patient identification, drawing blood samples, maintaining equipment, and record keeping. Responsibilities Perform phlebotomy and collect appropriate specimens as ordered. Assure pre‑authorizations and complete consent (ABN) before collecting limited coverage tests. Maintain documentation as described by the quality assurance program, including accessioning logs, equipment records, and checklists. Maintain adequate inventory of supplies and ensure all supplies are viable before use. Send specimens to reference laboratories for tests not performed in‑house. Process incoming orders for lab testing. Process in‑house and incoming reports. Update and file daily paperwork, lab logs, and maintenance logs. Properly identify and band patients for blood product transfusion; process properly labeled specimens per local blood bank policy. Operate designated laboratory equipment as directed. Use equipment effectively and efficiently; maintain equipment and work area. Perform waived lab testing under CLIA guidelines; record lot numbers of controls, calibrators, and reagents. Comply with regulatory agency standards; adhere to OSHA laws and Universal Precaution procedures. Properly dispose of hazardous materials. Maintain a clean working environment and restock the phlebotomy and laboratory area as needed. Maintain confidentiality of all patient and staff information. Qualifications Level 1 – Entry Level High school diploma or equivalent required. Position is entry‑level and requires no experience. Licensure from an accredited school of phlebotomy recommended. Current state licensure if applicable. Level 2 – Requires Additional Experience Position requires three years of experience in addition to Level 1 requirements. Level Sr – Advanced Experience Position requires five or more years of experience in addition to Levels 1 and 2. Physical Demands The physical demands include full range of motion, manual and finger dexterity, eye‑hand coordination, extended sitting/standing, use of hands and fingers, reaching or carrying, occasional lifting up to 40 lbs, corrected vision, normal hearing, and legible handwriting. Work Environment Work involves direct contact with patients and exposure to blood/body fluids, chemotherapeutic agents, potential infections, corrosive chemicals, glassware, and needles.
