Billing Specialist
The Salvation Army North and Central Illinois Division Harbor Light Center is seeking a Billing Specialist. This position reports to the Billing and Office Manager and is responsible for completing all billing tasks, assisting with the reception, and attending to telephone calls and secretarial duties.
The outcomes of this position include coordinating the collection of data from all departments, submitting claims and following up with insurance companies, monitoring DASA and other funding bodies, and reporting any problems or discrepancies to the Director of Clinical Programs.
Essential duties and responsibilities include preparing and submitting clean claims to various insurance companies, processing payments from insurance companies, completing pre-authorizations, entering all client data/transactions, occasional receptionist responsibilities, front office work, filing, checking DARTS and Medicaid status, and all other duties as assigned.
This position will be evaluated on the effectiveness of achieving outcomes, timeliness, accuracy, and completeness of accomplishing assigned goals.
Education/experience required includes a high school diploma or GED equivalent, at least two years of experience in secretarial and office work with computer operation, and two years of experience in insurance billing.

Position limitations include committing Salvation Army resources that have not been allocated or approved, keeping the Billing and Office Manager informed on all critical issues, and adhering to all Army policies and procedures.
Physical demands include light physical work, use of standard office equipment and PC, ability to walk up two flights of stairs and lift up to 25lbs, working in an office environment with a low noise level, and working with clients that have poor social skills, suffer from mental illness, and have substance abuse problems.
