Substitute Teacher Reports To: School Principal Department: Academic Class Status: Part-Time; Non-Exempt The Substitute Teacher supports Covenant Christian Academy’s mission by providing effective classroom supervision and instruction in the absence of the regular classroom teacher. The Substitute Teacher maintains continuity of learning by implementing lesson plans, fostering a positive and orderly classroom environment, and modeling Christian character in all interactions with students, families, and colleagues. This role requires flexibility, professionalism, and a commitment to supporting the spiritual, academic, and relational development of students. Key Role Responsibilities Implement lesson plans and instructional activities provided by the classroom teacher. Supervise students throughout the instructional day, maintaining a safe, orderly, and productive learning environment. Manage student behavior according to school policies and classroom expectations. Take attendance and complete other classroom administrative tasks as directed. Communicate relevant information regarding student progress, behavior, and classroom activities to the regular classroom teacher and administration. Follow all school safety, emergency, and operational procedures. Assist with classroom transitions, duties, and supervision assignments as directed. Fulfill additional responsibilities as assigned in support of the school’s mission and operations. Integrate biblical truth and Christian virtues into daily interactions with students and colleagues. Follow teacher lesson plans and classroom procedures with consistency and professionalism. Maintain an organized, productive learning environment that supports student engagement and achievement. Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability when serving in a variety of grade levels, classrooms, and instructional settings. Communicate effectively with campus administrators and staff regarding student needs, classroom activities, and any concerns that arise during the school day. Participate in the broader ministry of CCA by contributing time, talent and treasure beyond assigned role responsibilities. Qualifications A mature and growing personal faith in Jesus Christ consistent with CCA’s Statement of Faith. Active participation in a Bible-believing church. High school diploma required; bachelor's degree preferred. Prior experience working with children or in an educational setting preferred. Strong communication, interpersonal, and classroom management skills. Ability to adapt quickly, follow directions, and maintain professionalism in a variety of classroom environments. Desired Outcomes Students demonstrate measurable academic growth and increasing spiritual maturity, evidenced by assessment data, substantive classroom discourse, and mastery of curriculum standards. Instructional plans consistently align with the curriculum and dual-credit requirements and intentionally integrate biblical truth, critical thinking, and classical pedagogy that engage and challenge all learners. Assessments are administered consistently, evaluated promptly, and accompanied by clear, actionable feedback that supports student learning and development. The classroom culture reflects respect, accountability, and grace, as demonstrated through high levels of student engagement, responsible conduct, and relationships grounded in truth and love. The teacher maintains accurate and organized records, communicates proactively and professionally with families and colleagues, and participates in the CCA community.
