\nGeneral Summary of Position \n
\n \n
\nProvide non-clinical and clinical support to dedicated clinic operations including patient flow, responding to \n
\nrequests from clinical staff and providing clinically competent medical care services within their scope of \n
\npractice. The MA working at any Optum Serve site is responsible for safe patient care and ensuring \n
\nadherence to all Optum Serve Policies and Procedures.  \n
\n
\nThe Medical Assistant role is patient facing and can require working in a non-traditional clinical setting. It \n
\nis customer facing with high expectations for operational excellence, particularly for maintaining strict \n
\nadherence to compliance and control practices. The Medical Assistant performs clinical and \n
\nadministrative duties in a health care setting under the supervision of a licensed examiner. Duties \n
\nprimarily consist of ancillary completion, as well as telephone and clerical support.  \n
\n
\nResponsibilities: \n
\n• Contributes to the achievement of established organization goals and objectives and adheres to \n
\nOrganization policies, procedures, quality, and safety standards. Complies with governmental \n
\nregulations and Accreditation standards.  \n
\n• Assists providers with patient preparation for examination, minor office procedures and with the \n
\nexamination and education of patients. Supports other members of the clinical care team, assuring \n
\noptimal best practice patient flow; manages variable and unpredictable patient volume throughout the \n
\nworkday. Provides clerical support and serves as backup for the Administrative Assistant or other \n
\nteam members as needed.  \n
\n• Screens all patients, regardless of visit type, for preventative care needs, ongoing support, barriers to \n
\ncare, safety concerns, and potential fall risk.  \n
\n• As part of a High Reliability Organization, reports actual and potential problems concerning patients, \n
\nfamilies and associates using established reporting protocols for Optum Serve and/or work location. \n
\nParticipates in performance improvement initiatives to improve care quality and safety.  \n
\n• Ensures ongoing compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and quality/safety standards by \n
\nmaintaining and auditing temperature logs, ensuring medication supplies are current/unexpired, \n
\nchecking and maintaining emergency equipment, area free of clutter, and other related tasks.  \n
\n• Performs selected patient and laboratory testing consistent with the scope of the practice, including \n
\nbut not limited to electrocardiography, pulmonary function tests, and vision acuity testing (dependent \n
\nupon provider and site requirements). Documents these activities in the patient's electronic medical \n
\nrecord (EMR) or other venues based on policy.  \n
\n• Provides escort for patients and assists with patient discharge activities.  – Provides chaperoning for patients per policy.  \n
\n• Fulfills infection prevention and environmental responsibilities as assigned, which many include: Light \n
\ncleaning during clinic hours and cleaning of equipment. Updates appropriate records of scheduled \n
\nequipment maintenance and manages drug and medical supply inventories.  \n
\n• Under onsite provider supervision may perform phlebotomy, including venipuncture; pulmonary \n
\nfunction test (PFT), ankle brachial index (ABI) and electrocardiograms (EKG), measurement, and \n
\ndocumentation of vital signs. Completes requisitions as needed.  \n
\n• Attends scheduled meetings including, but not limited to, regular staff meetings and training classes \n
\nfor safety, infection control, OSHA, CLIA, BLS and others as required.  – Maintains compliance  files, records, logs, charts in accordance with Optum Serve and Federal, \n
\nState, and Local regulatory, contractual, and organizational guidelines including HIPAA as outlined \n
\nin training and policies/procedures, quality assurance and improvement processes.  \n
\n• Demonstrates behavior consistent with Optum Serve mission, vision, goals, objectives, and patient \n
\ncare philosophy.  \n
\n• Performs any other duties as directed by Optum Serve Leadership. \n

\nRequired Qualifications:  \n
\n• High School Diploma or GED Required.  \n
\n• Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant/Phlebotomy program.*  \n
\n• Phlebotomy certification from accredited training course, when mandated by state requirements.*  \n
\n• Qualified candidates must possess organizational and problem-solving skills, exceptional \n
\ncommunication and customer service and a strong attention to detail.  \n
\n– Individuals must be able to work independently and as part of a team, have good interpersonal \n
\nskills and a willingness to be flexible and adapt to changing situations. \n
\n – Candidates must possess computer skills: \n
\nMicrosoft Office Suite programs, Gmail and Google \n
\nDrive, setting up printers, troubleshooting internet issues, ability to learn new programs  and \n
\nsystems.  \n
\n– This job may require sitting for long periods, bending, twisting and occasionally lifting/carrying up to \n
\n50 lbs.  \n
\n
\nPreferred Qualifications:  \n
\n• Prior experience in clinical settings.  \n
\n• Prior VA or C&P experience.  \n
\n• Previous experience in waived lab testing and processing.  \n
\n• Compliance duties and cadences: Monthly site checklist – completed monthly.
