Access Control Technician

The Access Control Technician (Level 1) supports the installation, setup, and maintenance of access control systems in a data center environment under close supervision. This role focuses on building technical skills in low-voltage and electrical work, learning proper safety practices, and gaining hands-on experience with field installations and system testing.

Responsibilities

• Install and wire access control components, including card readers, magnetic locks, door strikes, and controllers, in accordance with project specifications.
• Pull, route, and terminate low-voltage cables, ensuring all devices are clearly labeled and hardware is mounted neatly and correctly.
• Assist with system testing and verification under the guidance of a lead technician or supervisor to confirm proper operation of access control systems.
• Document daily work activities, materials used, and job site conditions in an organized and accurate manner.
• Follow company safety standards and procedures at all times, maintaining a clean, orderly, and hazard-free work area.
• Communicate work progress, issues, and technical challenges clearly to the lead technician or supervisor.
• Support basic troubleshooting efforts for wiring and device issues as directed.
• Read and interpret basic wiring diagrams and installation instructions to complete assigned tasks.
• Collaborate with other team members and trades on-site to ensure smooth installation and integration of access control systems.

Essential Skills

• 02 years of experience in low-voltage, electrical, or access control work.
• Basic understanding of wiring, power supplies, and low-voltage systems.
• Ability to read and follow basic wiring diagrams and technical instructions.
• Hands-on skills in installation and low-voltage cable work, including pulling and terminating cables.
• Ability to work with electrical and construction tools and equipment safely.
• Strong work ethic, reliability, and willingness to learn in a supervised environment.
• High level of dependability and attention to detail in all installation and documentation tasks.
• Valid drivers license and clean driving record.
• OSHA 10 certification required at the start of employment.
• Commitment to obtaining OSHA 30 certification within 90 days of hire.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with blueprint reading and basic construction practices is beneficial.
• Familiarity with conduit installation and routing in a commercial or industrial setting.
• Exposure to data center environments or similar technical facilities is an advantage.
• Interest in developing a career in access control, security systems, or low-voltage electrical work.
• Strong communication skills for interacting with supervisors and team members.
• Ability to maintain accurate records of work performed and materials used.

Work Environment

This role is based in a data center environment, working around critical infrastructure and technology systems. You primarily work on-site, performing hands-on installations of low-voltage cabling and access control hardware in active construction or operational areas. The setting requires strict adherence to safety protocols, including OSHA standards, and maintaining a clean, organized workspace. You may work in areas with equipment noise, cable pathways, and structured racks, and you will regularly use common electrical and construction tools appropriate for low-voltage installation work.

This is a Contract position based out of Covington, GA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $28.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
