Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA)

Join a dedicated healthcare team in the heart of the Midwest region, providing critical support in surgical procedures. As a Certified Surgical First Assistant, you will collaborate closely with anesthesia providers, surgeons, and surgical staff to ensure optimal patient care before, during, and after surgery. General Summary This role involves utilizing sterile techniques and specialized equipment to assist in surgical operations, ensuring patient safety and procedural efficiency. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Prepare surgical cases accurately using physician preference cards and appropriate instruments. Apply medical knowledge of anatomy and physiology effectively during procedures. Maintain aseptic techniques, demonstrate manual dexterity, and anticipate the needs of the surgical team. Operate sterilization equipment following established protocols. Monitor and manage implantable devices with sterile technique and ensure proper function. Inspect and verify the functionality of surgical equipment prior to use. Handle surgical tools, tables, cautery units, and specialty devices with care. Assist physicians in positioning patients safely and appropriately. Provide clear visualization of the operative site under physician guidance. Support hemostasis and assist with closure of body planes using proper techniques. Apply wound dressings as ordered by the physician. Demonstrate accountability, work independently, adapt to change, and maintain punctuality and attendance standards. Organize information, maintain a clean and efficient workspace, and manage time effectively. Perform delegated tasks to uphold quality and enhance patient safety under surgeon supervision. Education Completion of an accredited Surgical Technologist program is required. Experience Previous experience as a Surgical Technologist or Surgical Nurse is preferred but not mandatory. Certification and Licenses Current Surgical Technologist Certification. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association. First Assistant Certification is preferred. Mental and Physical Requirements This position requires significant mental focus and physical activity including lifting up to 35 pounds, frequent walking, standing, turning, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, twisting, and reaching. Working Conditions Frequent exposure to infectious and communicable diseases through blood and body fluids, as well as occasional encounters with hostile individuals.
