Job Title: HVAC Service Technician

Job Description

This role focuses on providing HVAC service for primarily residential customers throughout Oakland County, with occasional light commercial work on systems up to 25 tons. You receive your own service van and tablet, and typically complete 4–5 service calls per day. Daily work includes diagnosing and repairing air conditioning units, furnaces, ductwork, thermostats, and related equipment, while clearly explaining issues and solutions to customers and processing payment upon completion. You work both inside and outside customer homes and job sites, following all safety procedures and delivering professional, customer-focused service.

Responsibilities

• Perform HVAC service, troubleshooting, and repair for mainly residential customers within Oakland County, with occasional light commercial service work up to 25 tons.
• Diagnose faults and performance issues in air conditioning units, furnaces, ducts, thermostats, mini splits, roof top units (RTUs), and other HVAC equipment.
• Carry out repairs and adjustments on heating, cooling, and ventilation systems to restore proper operation and efficiency.
• Complete 4–5 service calls per day, managing time effectively to meet scheduling and customer expectations.
• Use a company-provided service van and tablet to travel to job sites, access work orders, document findings, and complete service reports.
• Discuss identified issues with customers, present recommended fixes, and educate them on the nature of the repairs and ongoing system care.
• Provide professional customer service by clearly communicating, answering questions, and helping ease any concerns or tensions.
• Handle payment processing once services are completed, ensuring accurate billing and documentation.
• Work safely inside and outside customer houses and commercial sites, following all safety procedures and guidelines.
• Lift, carry, push, and pull tools, equipment, and materials as needed, including ladders and heavier items with assistance or appropriate devices.
• Work from heights and in small crawl spaces when required to access HVAC equipment.
• Perform HVAC work across a mix of environments, including approximately 50–60% residential, 30% new construction, and 10–20% commercial sites.
• Support installation and service work on new construction projects as needed.
• Apply electrical knowledge and EPA-certified practices when servicing HVAC systems.
• Maintain a clean, organized work area in the service van and at job sites, and care for company tools, equipment, and technology.
• Operate company vehicles responsibly, adhering to traffic laws and maintaining a safe driving record.

Essential Skills

• At least 2 years of residential HVAC service experience.
• Proven ability to troubleshoot and repair faults in air conditioning units and furnaces.
• Hands-on experience with residential HVAC service, repair, and general HVAC equipment.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and to push, pull, carry, or maneuver heavier items with assistance or appropriate devices.
• Ability to carry and use ladders, work from heights, and work in small crawl spaces.
• Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
• EPA Certification (EPA Universal or equivalent).
• Strong customer service skills, including the ability to communicate issues and fixes clearly and to help ease customer concerns.
• Experience working with heating and cooling systems in both residential and light commercial settings.
• Ability to follow safety procedures while working inside and outside customer homes and job sites.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with commercial HVAC service work, including light commercial systems up to 25 tons.
• Experience in new construction HVAC work, including installation and service.
• Familiarity with roof top units (RTUs), mini split systems, and a range of HVAC equipment.
• General electrical knowledge related to HVAC systems.
• Comfort using tablets or similar devices (such as iPads) to access work orders, document service details, and communicate with the office.
• Strong troubleshooting mindset and attention to detail in diagnosing HVAC issues.
• Ability to work independently in the field while maintaining professional communication with customers and the team.

Work Environment

The workload typically consists of about 50–60% residential service, 30% new construction, and 10–20% commercial work. The environment involves handling HVAC tools and equipment, working at heights, and accessing tight spaces such as crawl areas, while following established safety procedures. Attire is practical field wear suitable for HVAC service work and varying weather conditions.

This is a Permanent position based out of Bloomfield Hills, MI.

The pay range for this position is $52000.00 - $62400.00/yr.
