Production Supervisor

Department: Production Reports To: Operations Manager Travel Required: None Position Summary Under the general supervision of the Operations Manager, the Production Supervisor is responsible for directing plant operations by planning and assigning work, implementing policies and procedures, and recommending improvements in production methods, equipment, operating procedures, and working conditions. The Production Supervisor provides leadership to ensure the safe, efficient, and high quality production of products while maintaining compliance with food safety standards. This role also ensures facilities and processes conform to GMP and FSMA regulations through effective management of quality systems and documentation. The ideal candidate will establish clear expectations around safety, quality, productivity, and reliability while fostering a culture of continuous improvement. Key Responsibilities Team Leadership & Employee Development Communicate job expectations and performance standards. Plan, monitor, and evaluate employee performance. Coach, counsel, and discipline employees as needed. Train and onboard new employees. Develop team members through ongoing growth opportunities. Foster cooperation within and across departments. Production Management Monitor production processes and workflow. Set processing variables and observe control points. Monitor equipment, personnel, and resource utilization. Implement cost reduction initiatives and process improvements. Develop and maintain production reporting systems. Resolve process control issues and production disruptions. Schedule and assign personnel to meet production objectives. Establish priorities and adjust schedules as necessary. Track production progress and prepare shift production summaries. Quality & Food Safety Maintain quality standards through established procedures and controls. Ensure compliance with GMP, HACCP, FSMA, and food safety requirements. Support quality systems and documentation processes. Promote a culture of food safety and continuous improvement. Equipment & Operational Support Coordinate equipment repairs and maintenance activities. Evaluate new equipment and production technologies. Analyze production data and performance metrics. Provide production reports and respond to operational inquiries. Develop and improve operating systems, procedures, and controls. Safety & Compliance Maintain a safe and clean work environment. Ensure compliance with company policies and safety procedures. Educate employees on proper use of equipment and resources. Investigate workplace issues and recommend corrective actions. Enforce PPE requirements and safe operating practices. Continuous Improvement Stay current with industry trends and best practices. Participate in educational workshops and professional development. Benchmark industry standards and implement improvements. Support special projects and contribute to overall team success. Qualifications Preferred Experience 3 to 5+ years of food manufacturing experience. 2+ years of supervisory or leadership experience. Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Strong understanding of food manufacturing processes and production equipment. Knowledge of ingredient functionality, processing times, and temperature controls. Working knowledge of: BRC GMPs HACCP Food Safety Programs Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong problem solving and troubleshooting abilities. Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles. Familiarity with supply chain and production technologies. Above average mechanical aptitude. Strong attention to detail. Ability to follow detailed written instructions accurately. Ability to solve practical problems with limited standardization. Basic math skills and ability to use scales and calculators. Bilingual Spanish is a plus. Ability to work safely in a fast paced manufacturing environment. Work Environment Regular exposure to cold, hot, and humid conditions. Exposure to temperature extremes throughout plant operations. Frequent work near moving mechanical equipment. Potential exposure to fumes and airborne particles. Ability to work in confined or close spaces. Loud manufacturing environment. Frequent changes in priorities and production demands.
