Property Accounting Manager

Linear Retail Properties is a leading acquirer, owner and operator of retail properties in New England with a focus on eastern Massachusetts, southern New Hampshire and eastern Rhode Island. Linear owns 67 retail properties including convenience-oriented strip shopping centers, specialty storefront retail in select downtown neighborhoods, smaller, well-located centers in dominant retail destination corridors, net leased single tenant retail properties and urban retail condominiums. Property accounting is outsourced to a third-party property manager. The company is backed by a multi-billion-dollar investor which has invested in Linear Retail for 20+ years. As such, capital formation is extremely stable. Summary We are seeking a Property Accounting Manager to join our company. The position reports to the Senior Vice President of Accounting & Finance and oversees the day-to-day property accounting at Linear Retail. This is more than a traditional property accounting position. Responsibilities Property Accounting: Oversee, coordinate and collaborate with third-party property manager’s accounting team. Review and analyze monthly property financial statements, including all supporting schedules and workpapers. Perform higher level risk-based review (on a monthly/quarterly basis). Assist with portfolio treasury activities, cash management, and analysis of ongoing cash positions. Ensure accuracy of property rent rolls, financial reports, budgets, and reforecasts. Oversee capital project requisition process and review deliverables. Assist with the administration of accounting and accounts payable software. Oversee lease abstract review and accounting software integration process. Manage and review accounting for property transactions including onboarding of property acquisitions, dispositions and debt financings. Financial Reporting and Compliance: Assist Corporate Accounting Team with monthly closing process including the consolidation of property activities. Assist with property level information included in the quarterly report to capital partners. Oversight and preparation of annual financial audit request items. Prepare annual tax compliance request list items. Special projects, as needed. Process Improvement and Internal Controls: Proactively monitor compliance with internal controls, policies & procedures. Identify opportunities to streamline financial processes, enhance efficiency, and improve overall property performance. Other Assist with accounting system upgrades and implementation of new modules. Oversee other process automation projects. Requirements Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Accounting or equivalent is required. 5-10 years of commercial real estate industry experience preferred. Experience managing property accounting teams and third-party property managers. Experience with effectively managing accounting systems implementation projects. Adept in the use of MRI (strongly preferred), Yardi or other real estate industry standard accounting software platforms. Proficient in Excel and other Microsoft Office suite products. Experience in, and strong understanding of, internal controls. Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills. Collaborative, team player with a strong work ethic.
