Speech/Language Pathologist
Position Purpose: To accurately identify students exhibiting a communication disorder as well as determine the need for speech and language as a related service. To design appropriate evidence based treatment programs to meet their unique needs.
Qualifications
1. A valid NC teaching certificate with certification in Speech/Language Pathology.
2. Master's degree in Speech/Language Pathology.
3. Certification of Clinical Competence in Speech Pathology; American Speech Language Hearing Association, a valid NC license through the Board of Examiners
4. Flexible, positive attitude toward students exhibiting communication disorders.
5. Possess in-depth understanding of the communicative nature and needs of children with specific disorders, which affect communication.
6. Competencies in the knowledge of cognition, motivation, development and principles of learning with application to the therapeutic process and evidence- based practices.
7. Understanding of the due process regulations for exceptional children.
8. Willingness to advocate for the needs of students with a disability.
Term of Employment: 10 Month Full Time
Reports to: Director of Special Services/Principal
Nature of Work
Utilizing leadership, advocacy, and collaboration, school-based speech-language pathologists provide prevention, assessment, and remediation services for students who exhibit difficulties in the areas of language, speech, voice, and fluency. These services are designed to help children meet their educational goals. Below are the major functions of the speech-language pathologist employed in educational environments.

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Certified Personnel.
