Harold Washington College currently has anopening for a part-time Tutor in Ceramics. This position isresponsible for bridging the gap between the college and the needsof the student. This position also helps students make academicprogress, while promoting independent learning andself-reliance.If you are interested in working in a fast-paced environment andenjoy working with students, consider joining our team.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provides academic assistance to assigned tutees, either in agroup or individually. Establishes liaison with the instructor and works under theinstructor’s direction to assist the student. Attends periodic training sessions given by staff members toincrease competency in working with students. Maintains records on each student who is being tutored,including follow-up and periodic assessment. Schedules tutoring appointments. Provides evaluations and other reports as required bystaff. Helps students develop positive attitudes toward learning andstudying and helps students develop a high level of motivation inacademic areas. Assists students in achieving a better understanding ofspecific subject material and in improving academic capabilities indesignated areas. Helps students develop the study skills necessary for academicsuccess. Establishes and maintains rapport with the assignedstudents. Assists in designing and implementing class cooperativeprojects .

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college oruniversity in higher in a field of study and subject area relatedto the subject(s) being tutored, OR similar technicalcertifications and training. Specific additional requirements orcertifications may be required depending on the assignmentarea. Completion of tutoring certification preferred. Experience in teaching, tutoring, or delivering academicsupport to students at the post-secondary instructional level isstrongly preferred. Experience working in a large, urban community collegeenvironment with a diverse cultural and ethnic student body ishighly desirable. Knowledgeable of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel,PowerPoint).
