Our client a lean, high-performing upstream oil and gas company focused exclusively on the Permian Basin is hiring a leader over Technology & AI. The right person will be excited at the greenfield aspect of this role. They want someone to own the internal AI platform, the data the business operates on, the AI being pushed into every team. This role is in the office in Midland, TX.

Responsibilities

• Build and run the internal platform, own the applications and data the company operates on, move them onto a real database and scalable platform, and keep them reliable, accurate, and genuinely useful
• Drive AI adoption across the business, find new use cases, build tools and guardrails for safe adoption, and keep the company ahead of the curve as the space evolves
• Build and govern a clean, trustworthy single source of truth across land, accounting, reserves, and production - and the integrations that keep data flowing
• Keep everyday technology running, laptops, Microsoft 365, networks, telephony, and conference-room AV; when someone brings a problem, it gets solved
• Lead infrastructure and security, identity and access management, backups, field connectivity, endpoint security, threat protection, incident response, and disaster recovery
• Own the budget and vendors, make disciplined build / buy / outsource decisions, build and direct a bench of developers and specialists, and manage contracts and renewals
• Partner across the business, work with Land, BD, Finance, Operations, and Production to remove technology friction and turn their problems into the right solutions; own the company's website and digital presence

Requirements

• A track record of building and running technology that mattered, internal tools, automations, data platforms, or applications you shipped and then kept alive and improving for years
• Genuine depth across infrastructure, networks, security, Microsoft 365, data, and applications, enough to do the work yourself and know instantly when a vendor isn't delivering
• Fluency with AI tools and a drive to push them further, plus the patience to help a non-technical team adopt them
• Hands-on experience with modern data and automation tooling and AI in real, production workflows
• Strong ownership and judgment, comfortable setting direction, managing a budget, and getting results from vendors and specialists you don't directly employ
• Excellent communication, equally comfortable with field operators and developers

Preferred

• Experience as the senior-most technology owner for an organization, as a department of one or leading a small team
• Oil and gas or field operations background
• Relevant degree or certifications
