5-Axis CNC Mill Programmer

This role focuses on programming and optimizing 5-axis CNC milling operations for aerospace components using Mastercam. You will create, modify, and refine CNC programs to support complex, precision machining in a fast-paced, high-technology environment.

Responsibilities

• Program 5-axis CNC mills using Mastercam to produce complex aerospace components with high precision and quality.
• Develop, edit, and optimize CNC programs to improve cycle times, tool life, and part quality.
• Interpret engineering drawings, models, and specifications to create accurate toolpaths and machining strategies.
• Collaborate closely with mechanical engineers and the engineering team to ensure manufacturability and alignment with design intent.
• Set up or support the setup of 5-axis CNC machines by defining tooling, fixtures, and workholding requirements within the program.
• Troubleshoot and resolve programming-related issues on the shop floor, adjusting toolpaths and parameters as needed.
• Ensure all programs follow internal standards, safety practices, and aerospace industry requirements.
• Participate in technical discussions and reviews with engineering leadership to refine processes and support continuous improvement.
• Document programs, setups, and process notes to support repeatable production and knowledge sharing.

• Proven experience programming 5-axis CNC mills for precision machining applications.
• Strong proficiency with Mastercam for creating and editing 5-axis toolpaths.
• Hands-on experience with CNC programming in an aerospace or similarly high-precision environment.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, 3D models, and technical specifications.
• Solid understanding of machining principles, cutting tools, feeds, speeds, and workholding for 5-axis operations.
• Strong problem-solving skills for diagnosing and resolving programming and machining issues.
• Effective communication skills to collaborate with mechanical engineers and engineering leadership.

• Experience working on programs or components related to advanced space or aerospace applications.
• Background collaborating with mechanical engineering teams on manufacturability and process improvements.
• Familiarity with continuous improvement practices in a precision machining environment.
• Comfort participating in technical interviews and discussions to demonstrate programming knowledge and approach.

Work Environment

This position operates in a precision machining and aerospace manufacturing environment focused on 5-axis CNC milling. You will work primarily with Mastercam and 5-axis CNC equipment, collaborating closely with mechanical engineers and the broader engineering team. The typical schedule runs from 6:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., providing a consistent daytime shift. The selection process includes an initial 20-minute phone call, a 30- to 45-minute technical discussion with a mechanical engineer, and an additional 30-minute conversation with an engineering director before an offer. The environment values technical rigor, clear communication, and adherence to established machining and safety practices.

This is a Permanent position based out of El Segundo, CA.

The pay range for this position is $80000.00 - $120000.00/yr.

This is a fully onsite position in El Segundo,CA.
