Principal Additive Manufacturing Process Engineer

Job Details Date Posted: 2026-05-19 Location: US-CT-EAST, Hartford, CT Role Type: Onsite Security Clearance: U.S. citizenship required. Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance required (active after day 1). What You Will Do Lead process development activities to improve print capability, increase speed, reduce cost, and enhance material performance for advanced RTX business unit product initiatives. Support additive manufacturing (AM) qualification efforts utilizing IQ, OQ, and MQ protocols in collaboration with cross‑functional business unit teams. Develop and employ advanced tools and equipment to characterize machine and process space. Collaborate with government, industry, academia, and business unit partners to develop whitepapers, project concepts, and responsive proposals. Conduct root‑cause analysis (RCCA) on build failures, machine or process issues, or product performance gaps. Work with cross‑functional teams – materials, design, simulation, operations, and characterization – to support and improve the full value stream. Provide process expertise and best practices to support RTX business units. Qualifications University engineering degree (or equivalent) and a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree (or equivalent) and a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience. Demonstrated expertise in additive manufacturing tools and processes. Scripting experience with Matlab, Python, VBA, JavaScript, or similar. Experience with software and tools used in additive manufacturing, including CAD packages. Hands‑on experience with metal laser powder‑bed‑fusion AM equipment. Working understanding of AM machine sensors and control systems. Effective communication skills—both verbal and written—in a multidisciplinary, collaborative environment focused on innovation.
