The therapist is responsible for carrying out treatment in accordance with the provider’s prescription and for observing all hospital patients. The therapist is responsible for overseeing care of equipment economical use of supplies, linens, utilities, and cleanliness of the department area. Formal Policy-Setting Responsibilities: No formal policy setting responsibility. Formal Supervisory Responsibility: No formal supervisory responsibility. In conjunction with Physical Therapy Manager, oversees and directs activities of Physical Therapist Assistant. Required Knowledge: Knowledge of principles and techniques of physical and occupational therapy. Required Skills and Ability: Must be able to apply knowledge of anatomy, physiology, neurology, kinesiology, and physical science to specialized techniques in treatment of the patient. Education and Certification/Registration Required for the Position: Must be duly licensed under applicable State laws to practice physical therapy and a graduate of an accredited physical therapy curriculum. Current BLS CPR certification. Essential Responsibilities and Tasks All essential responsibilities and tasks are performed while meeting or exceeding Cass Regional’s Patient Satisfaction goals as measured by Press Ganey. A. Responsible for the evaluation, planning, directing and administering of physical therapy modalities of treatment as prescribed by a licensed provider. Administers treatments and physical agents as prescribed by a referring physician in an effort to restore function and prevent disability following injury, disease or physical disability. (80% of time) Assess and create patient treatment plans for continued patient care. Keeping detailed records relating to patient conditions, evaluations, treatment and progress. Consults with referring provider concerning goals and treatment plans. Provides instructions for home care and treatment. B. Responsible for assistance in office administration. Maintains department cleanliness and safety (10% of time) Meets current documentation standards and policies. Maintains records pertinent to the personnel and operation of the department. Ensures that patient charges are accurate and entered on a timely basis. Keep accurate daily and monthly department records. C. Formulates a teaching plan based on identified learning needs and evaluates effectiveness of learning; family is included in teaching, as appropriate. (10% of time) Assists patients to reach their maximum performance and level of functioning, while learning to live within the limits of their capabilities. Muscle re‑education techniques. Training in activities of daily living. Gait training including instruction in use of canes, crutches, walkers, braces, prosthesis, balance training and adaptive devices. Instruction I use of mechanical devices such as pulleys, parallel bars, walking ramps, steps, shoulder wheel and resistive exercise equipment. Advise on construction of exercise apparatus. Instruct on posture and good body mechanics. Participates in educational staff performance improvement in‑services. Assists with orientation and in‑service training for certified department staff members. Participates in guidance and educational programs.
