Substitute Teacher

Job Summary: The School City of Hammond is seeking reliable, flexible, and enthusiastic Substitute Teachers to support student learning across all grade levels (K–12) during teacher absences. Substitute Teachers play a key role in maintaining classroom instruction, fostering a positive learning environment, and ensuring continuity in students’ education. Key Responsibilities: Deliver instructional plans left by the regular teacher or implement prepared curriculum activities Manage classroom behavior and maintain a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment Supervise students in the classroom, hallways, cafeteria, and other assigned locations Follow school policies, routines, and procedures Provide written feedback or documentation to the regular teacher on student progress and any noteworthy incidents Adapt teaching methods to meet student needs and grade-level expectations when necessary Uphold the educational standards and goals of the school or district Qualifications: Required: Indiana Substitute Permit (required) High school diploma or equivalent (minimum requirement) Ability to pass background checks as required by the school/district Strong communication and classroom management skills Flexibility to work across a range of grade levels and subjects Preferred: Bachelor’s degree or higher Valid teaching credential or Prior teaching or classroom experience Familiarity with virtual or hybrid learning tools Compensation: Competitive daily rate based on district policy and experience Opportunities for long-term assignments and increased pay rates Why Join Us?
