QUALIFICATIONS:

Must provide an IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card. Must have a valid Arizona Driver's License and provide an EZ MVR Arizona 39-month record when operating a school vehicle. Must have CPR and First Aid Certification. Must have an Arizona Teaching Certificate in the approved area(s)/endorsement(s). Must have a minimum of a bachelor's degree in education or a related field; preferred. Must have an ELA endorsement. Must be familiar with reading assessments (e.g., DIBELS), testing, and data-driven decision-making. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Must exhibit sensitivity and respect for the Gila River Indian Community's language, culture, history, traditions, and people. Conducts duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Gila Crossing Board of Trustees' approved policies and procedures, personnel manual, and other reporting policies and procedures of the Tribe and state and federal governments. Knowledge of Direct/Explicit Instruction methodology is preferred.

JOB GOALS:

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

Administers and develops subject-specific assessments for the purpose of assessing student competency levels and/or developing individual learning plans that take into account the unique stories, accomplishments, and struggles of Native people. Advises parents and/or legal guardians of student progress for the purpose of communicating expectations and student achievements, developing methods for improvement, and/or reinforcing classroom goals in the home environment. Assesses student progress toward objectives, expectations, and/or goals for the purpose of providing feedback to students, parents, and administration. Collaborates with instructional staff, other school personnel, parents, and a variety of community resources for the purpose of improving the overall quality of student outcomes and achieving established classroom objectives in support of the school improvement plan. To build the cultural competence of educators, professional development must address evidence-based practices related to instruction, curriculum, and the school climate/environment. Educators and communities must openly engage in dialogue to identify opportunities to implement culturally responsive practices and strategies. Counsels students for the purpose of improving performance, health status, problem-solving techniques, and a variety of personal issues. Demonstrates and differentiates methods required to perform classroom and/or subject-specific assignments for the purpose of providing an effective program that addresses individual student requirements. Instructs students for the purpose of improving their academic success through a defined course of study. Manages student behavior for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal learning environment. Monitors students in a variety of educational environments (e.g., classrooms, school grounds, hallways, restrooms, and field trips) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment. Participates in a variety of meetings and professional development activities for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform job functions. Prepares a variety of written materials (e.g., grades, lesson plans following scope and sequence, correspondence with parents and students, examinations and quizzes, attendance records, and anecdotal records) for the purpose of documenting student progress and meeting mandated requirements. Reports incidents (e.g., fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse, harassment, and zero-tolerance offenses) for the purpose of maintaining students' personal safety and providing a positive learning environment. Participates in educational activities, such as professional training and workshops, that improve personal skills for providing better services to students. Provides for the proper care and use of assigned supplies and equipment. Maintains student records, test results, student cumulative folders, class charts, daily attendance reports, and progress reports. Plans a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students and adjusts teaching methods based on individual differences among students. Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and, in harmony with those goals, establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and similar activities and communicates those objectives to students. Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media consistent with the physical limitations of the provided location and the needs and capabilities of the individual students or student groups involved. Strives to implement, through instruction and action, the school's philosophy of education and its instructional goals and objectives. Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, school policy, and administrative regulations. Makes provisions to be available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms. Strives to maintain and improve professional competence. Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required. Performs other duties as assigned.

PROBATIONARY PERIOD:

Newly appointed employees will be subject to an initial ninety (90) calendar-day probationary period.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, as well as significant fine-finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 40% sitting, 20% walking, and 40% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Generally indoors, with some outdoor activities, in a classroom setting. Must be able to work with interruptions.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

This is a contract position. The employee will work eight hours per day and ten months per school year.
