Senior Hydrologist | Dam Operator Safety Training: Fundamentals, Inspection, Monitoring & Field Practicum Job description ID : DOI0017016 We are seeking a Senior Hydrologist to provide training and support for the Department of the Interior (DOI) Bureau of Reclamation Dam Safety Office in Denver, Colorado and across the Western United States. The position is a contractual assignment, initially 1099, with potential conversion to a full‑time W‑2 role. Job Overview The role focuses on developing high‑quality course content, delivering instruction on hydrologic principles, dam operations, flood routing, instrumentation data interpretation, and operational safety procedures. The incumbent will coordinate hydrologic aspects of field training and provide practical gate operation scenarios for classroom and on‑site training. Responsibilities Teach hydrologic principles and dam operations related to water levels, inflows, and releases. Develop course modules on flood routing, instrumentation data interpretation, and operational safety procedures. Coordinate hydrologic aspects of field training and translate hydrology into operational decisions. Advise on instrumentation readings and aid in the creation of practical gate operation scenarios for classroom instruction. Provide laminated operational check flowcharts for operators. Location & Travel Initial work location: PO Box 25007 Denver, CO 80225‑0007. Possibility of remote work. Expected travel across the Western United States Region. Desired Qualifications 10+ years of experience in hydrology and reservoir operations. Experience with federal water projects. Prior training or exercise design experience. Federal security clearance: active Secret clearance with eligibility for Interim TS/SCI or full TS/SCI. Skills Hydrograph interpretation, basic routing, data QA/QC, SCADA awareness. Operational judgment, safety emphasis, systems thinking, coaching ability. Strong communication skills (oral and written).
