About the Position

Position Overview

HPA Healthcare is seeking a Board-Certified General Surgeon for urgent locum tenens call coverage in Wilson, North Carolina.

The assignment offers 24-hour beeper call with no scheduled outpatient clinic responsibilities. The physician will provide emergency general surgery consultations, inpatient rounding, admissions, and procedures.

Initial coverage is needed November 26–30, with potential additional shifts through late December.

Assignment Highlights

• $3,000 per regular 24-hour call shift

• Proposed holiday compensation of $3,900 per applicable 24-hour shift

• First 2 qualifying callback hours included in each call shift

• Additional qualifying callback paid at $275/hour after the first 2 hours

• 24-hour beeper call, 7:00 AM–7:00 AM

• Initial Thanksgiving weekend coverage

• Potential ongoing coverage through December

• Approximately 4 phone consultations, 4 patients evaluated, and 4 admissions per 24 hours

• Phone response within 15 minutes

• Onsite response within 45 minutes

• No scheduled outpatient clinic

• General Surgery and laparoscopic procedures required

• GI endoscopy experience highly preferred

• MediTech EMR

• Active North Carolina license required

• Expedited credentialing, approximately 3–4 days

• Travel and housing reimbursement subject to approved limits

Responsibilities

• Provide emergency general surgery consultation and coverage.

• Perform inpatient rounding and manage unassigned surgical patients.

• Evaluate and admit patients requiring surgical management.

• Perform laparoscopic appendectomy, cholecystectomy, and hernia repair.

• Perform breast surgery and other required general surgery procedures.

• Provide chest tube insertion and other appropriate inpatient interventions.

• Respond promptly to hospital call requests.

• Document patient care in MediTech.

Qualifications

• MD or DO degree

• Board Certified in General Surgery

• Active, unrestricted North Carolina license

• Clean professional and malpractice background

• ABLS, ACLS, ATLS, BLS, and PALS certifications, as requested

• Proficiency in adult general surgery

• Laparoscopic surgical experience

• Ability to meet 15-minute telephone and 45-minute onsite response requirements

• GI endoscopy experience highly preferred

• Availability for the initial November dates
