Charge experience
Labor and delivery experience, including the ability to labor and recover the mother
Experience receiving and transitioning the newborn, including assessment
Experience with shoulder dystocia, postpartum hemorrhage, and other potential OB emergencies preferred


Description:
The unit has 9 LDRP beds, 1 OBED bed, 4 NICU beds, and 1 OR suite.
Patient ratios are 1:1 for active labors, inductions, and C-sections, and 1:3 for couplet care.
Newborns are 1:1 until stable, and NICU is 1:3 for intermediate care.
Two NICU nurses must be in the unit if there are admitted patients.
There are no techs or unit secretaries available on the unit.
Types of equipment include central monitoring, IV pumps, infant warmers, tele-med robot for neonatologists, bili-blankets, and PCA pumps.
The documentation system used is Meditech and central monitoring system.
Full-time required is 3 shifts per week, with rotating weekends and holidays.
Regular staff may be expected to float within the facility as needed, with some cross-trained to float between departments.
Daily rounding on all patients and safety rounding is required to enhance patient experience.
Advanced skills in fetal monitoring and experience with inductions are needed.
Procedures performed include C-sections, circumcisions, intra-uterine monitoring, and vacuum or forceps-assisted deliveries.
The unit is staffed with experienced RNs, with many having over 30 years of experience, offering valuable resources and mentorship.
The environment promotes teamwork and provides excellent opportunities for gaining experience in labor, delivery, postpartum, and neonate care.
