Advanced Practice Nurse Certified Nurse Practitioner (NP)

The Advanced Practice Nurse Certified Nurse Practitioner (NP) practices in Primary Care Service to provide a full range of services emphasizing quality, timeliness, and the advancement of the Veterans Affairs (VA) mission. The NP provides advanced clinical practice, consultation, and management. The NP practices to the full extent of their education, training, and certification. Core functions are outlined in the clinical privileges that correspond with this position. The NP has prescriptive authority for a panel of patients or program as indicated by their position. This position is a Float position on the Primary Care Organizational chart. Duties are assigned as the service need arises and include (but are not limited to):

• Provision of care according to the Pact Aligned Care Team (PACT) model as directed by VHA Directive 1101.10 (1) Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) Handbook.
• Planned coverage when Primary Care Provider (PCP) is on planned leave.
• Unplanned coverage (covering for PCP during sick call): this is frequently a same day assignment, may need to be called into clinic from teleworking if Face To Face (FTF) appointments are scheduled.
• Gap coverage (more long-term coverage until vacancy is filled in the event of PCP retirement or resignation).
• Coverage of VA Urgent Care Clinic
• Remote virtual coverage (Phone and VVC visits as well as management of view alert notifications of lab results, secure messages, messages from PACT members, etc.) for any VAPIHCS clinic division.
• Float based on Oahu but will travel to all VA PIHCS community based outpatient clinics as needed on rotating basis (Kona, Hilo, Maui, Kauai, American Samoa, Guam).
• COVID related tasks such as directed by the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), which may include evaluation of (+) verbal screens both at the clinic door and from the Clinical Contact Center (CCC) Advanced Medical Support Assistants, COVID swab clinic,contacting (+) COVID Veterans and following clinically until resolution of symptoms.
• Assist with unscheduled walk-ins.
• Assist with New Initial Exams (same day and pre-scheduled).
• Coverage for Employee and Occupational Health tasks for all duties including but not limited to pre-employment physicals, evaluation of acute injuries, COVID testing, tracking, vaccine programs, etc.
• View alert notification coverage for providers on leave.
• View alert notification coverage for other providers in the float pool.
• Special projects as assigned by Primary Care ACOS, Deputy, or Section Chief (float supervisor).
• Medication prescribing should be consistent with practices of the providers being covered (which could require obtaining a Hawaii license or equivalent for facility practices, if current state license is restrictive).
• Delivery of Women's Health Care (if Medical Staff Office privileging requirements met).
• Other duties as assigned.
