A day in the life of an Aerospace Quality Assurance Inspector

You start your shift by opening the build package and confirming every piece of assembly documentation is accurate and complete. As the line gets moving, you step onto the floor to observe assembly, lay-up, and torque operations—verifying that each step aligns with specifications and recorded torque values. A new lot of raw material arrives, so you examine certificates and perform incoming checks before moving on to dimensional inspections on piece-parts and final assemblies. With drawings and tolerances in hand, you interpret specifications and confirm conformance using calipers, micrometers, DMMs, gauges, and the CMM. You wrap the day by logging inspection and test results—graphs, reports, and entries into local systems—and partnering with engineers and operators to communicate findings. You remain ready to support other tasks related to the role as directed by leadership.

What you'll make happen

• Validate assembly documentation for accuracy and completeness
• Observe and verify assembly, lay-up, and torque operations on the floor
• Perform dimensional inspections on parts and completed assemblies
• Inspect incoming raw materials, piece-parts, and final builds
• Interpret specifications, engineering drawings, and tolerances
• Record inspection and test outcomes via logs, graphs, reports, and local systems
• Support additional duties aligned with the position as assigned

Must-have qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED
• 1–3 years of experience as a Quality Inspector in aerospace manufacturing or a closely related field
• Hands-on experience with inspection methods and tools (DMM, calipers, micrometers, gauges, etc.)
• Ability to perform inspections using assembly instructions and engineering drawings
• Proven skill with precision measurement tools and calibrated equipment
• Strong technical and computer proficiency, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
• Clear verbal and written communication across all organizational levels
• Meticulous attention to detail and a solid grasp of quality-focused practices and processes

Preferred credentials

• Associate or bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality Assurance, or a related discipline
• ASQ certification (e.g., from the American Society for Quality)
• Certification or demonstrated knowledge of AS9100 or similar aerospace QMS standards
• Exposure to Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement
• Comfort reading, interpreting, and applying technical documents, blueprints, and engineering drawings
