Clinical Nutritionist Adolescent Bariatric & Adult Infectious Disease
East Carolina University
Clinical Nutritionist Adolescent Bariatric & Adult Infectious Disease Position Number: 400567 Full Time or Part Time: Full Time Job Category: Staff - Professional Organizational Unit Overview The Division of Infectious Disease is a unit within the leadership of the Brody School of Medicine Internal Medicine Department, providing state‑of‑the‑art diagnosis and treatment for a wide range of infections. Infectious Disease doctors help ensure the timely diagnosis and treatment of acute infections by recommending appropriate diagnostic tests to identify the source and recommending the appropriate antibiotic to treat the infection. Inpatient and outpatient consultations are available for a wide variety of illnesses, including but not limited to HIV/AIDS, postsurgical infections, skin and soft tissue infections, infections in cancer patients, bone and joint infections, pneumonia, sepsis, emerging infections, and fever of unknown origin. Additionally, we offer an International Traveler’s Clinic that provides travel advice and immunizations for individuals traveling overseas. The Ryan White program is the largest initiative within the Division of Infectious Diseases, providing services to patients across 28 counties in eastern North Carolina. Our physicians and physician extenders currently care for over 1,800 Ryan White patients throughout this region and its surrounding areas. Faculty members collect clinical and social data to better understand and address the social determinants of health that contribute to the disproportionately high HIV infection rates among specific populations. The division is also involved in numerous clinical trials focused on HIV therapies, which offer essential medications to individuals who might otherwise lack access to treatment. The Ryan White Program enables patients access to medical care services at little or no cost and expands the array of specialty medical services (nutrition, mental health/substance use counseling, dental services, case management, transportation assistance) through grant funds. The Department of Internal Medicine plays a vital role in advancing the mission of East Carolina University Brody School of Medicine, which focuses on three primary goals: providing healthcare to citizens of eastern North Carolina, training primary care physicians to meet the healthcare needs of the region, and making medical education accessible to underserved populations. By collecting and analyzing data, faculty can make informed decisions that help patients improve their health outcomes. The Department of Pediatrics within the Brody School of Medicine is dedicated to improving the health and well‑being of infants, children, and adolescents across Eastern North Carolina by delivering high‑quality, evidence‑based, compassionate pediatric care, advancing medical education and workforce development, and supporting clinical scholarship and population health initiatives. The department serves as a regional pediatric care provider and safety‑net, addressing the needs of medically complex and underserved populations while integrating clinical care, teaching, research, and community engagement. Through its academic mission, the department educates and trains future pediatric providers committed to serving rural and underserved communities, strengthens access to specialty pediatric services, and contributes to the long‑term health of the region. Job Duties To provide advanced, patient‑centered medical nutrition therapy for adolescents participating in bariatric care and adults receiving treatment for infectious diseases, applying clinical judgment, current evidence‑based guidelines, and interdisciplinary collaboration to support optimal treatment outcomes. Apply evidence‑based practice guidelines and current clinical literature to ensure nutrition interventions are accurate, current, and aligned with standards of care. Document nutrition assessments, care plans, and follow‑up in the electronic medical record in compliance with regulatory and institutional requirements. Serve as a nutrition resource for medical providers, trainees, and clinical staff across pediatric and adult settings. Participate in quality improvement initiatives and support programmatic evaluation of nutrition outcomes. Educate medical students, residents, and other healthcare trainees as requested, contributing to clinical learning experiences. CLINICAL SUPPORT POSITION – NOT SUBJECT TO STATE HUMAN RESOURCES ACT.
