Job Title: Material Handler Job Description

The Material Handler safely moves and handles heavy sheet metal using a sit-down forklift and manual lifting, supports shipping, receiving, and inventory activities, and maintains accurate records using a warehouse management system. This role requires frequent heavy lifting, careful operation of forklifts with wide loads both indoors and outdoors, and close collaboration with the warehouse team to ensure materials flow efficiently through the facility.

• Lift and handle sheet metal products weighing around 100 pounds frequently, using safe lifting techniques and working with team members to move heavier items weighing 300 to 500 pounds.
• Operate a sit-down forklift to move extremely long, wide-load sheet metal throughout the plant and occasionally outside the facility.
• Transport materials safely and efficiently, maintaining awareness of surroundings and following all safety procedures when operating indoors and outdoors.
• Load sheet metal onto forklifts and adjust material when dropping off or picking up to ensure secure and stable loads.
• Perform shipping and receiving tasks, including staging, loading, unloading, and verifying incoming and outgoing materials.
• Support inventory control by counting, organizing, and tracking materials within the warehouse.
• Use a computer-based warehouse management system (WMS) to review part numbers, enter data, and document material movements accurately.
• Work without RF scanners and rely on careful visual verification of part numbers and documentation, maintaining a high level of attention to detail.
• Assist the warehouse team with general warehouse duties and help maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area.
• Learn and follow company processes and procedures for material handling, inventory, and documentation.

• At least 1 year of experience operating a sit-down forklift in a warehouse or industrial environment.
• At least 2 years of experience in inventory, shipping, and receiving functions.
• Ability to frequently lift and handle materials weighing around 100 pounds and to participate in team lifts for heavier items up to 300–500 pounds.
• Experience working in shipping and receiving, including loading, unloading, and verifying materials.
• Proficiency in operating forklifts safely with long and wide loads, both indoors and outdoors.
• Strong attention to detail when reviewing part numbers and documenting information without the use of RF scanners.
• Willingness to learn and use a warehouse management system (WMS) if not already experienced.

• Basic computer skills to enter and retrieve data in a warehouse management system.
• Previous experience in a warehouse environment handling metal or heavy materials.
• Comfort working in a non-climate-controlled environment with varying temperatures.
• Ability to work collaboratively with a warehouse team and communicate clearly with coworkers and supervisors.
• Reliability and flexibility to support overtime needs as required by the operation.

The role is based in a warehouse and plant environment that is not fully climate controlled. The facility uses fans during hot weather and heaters during cold weather to improve comfort, but temperatures can still vary with the seasons. You will operate a sit-down forklift and handle long, wide-load sheet metal both inside the plant and occasionally outdoors. The schedule runs from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday, with overtime on Fridays as needed, and a fair amount of overtime is typical. The work involves frequent heavy lifting, movement around the warehouse, and close coordination with the warehouse team to keep materials organized and flowing efficiently.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of SAINT LOUIS, MO.

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.

This is a fully onsite position in SAINT LOUIS,MO.
