Job Summary:

Position Title: Laboratory Phlebotomist
Location: Potsdam, NY 13676
Duration: 8 weeks (Possible extension)
Work Schedule: Day 5x7.5-Hour (06:00 - 14:00)/Night 5x7.5-Hour (22:00 - 06:00)
Hours: 37 hrs

Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:

• Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collections for patients of all age groups, including neonates, pediatrics, adults, and geriatrics.
• Collect blood specimens using Vacutainer and syringe methods while following CLSI order of draw guidelines.
• Process, label, centrifuge, aliquot, store, and transport specimens according to laboratory protocols.
• Perform special specimen collections, including blood cultures, oral glucose tolerance tests, finger sticks, heel sticks, and neonatal screening.
• Prioritize STAT, timed, and routine specimen collections to ensure timely patient care.
• Accurately document patient information and specimen collection in Epic EMR .
• Follow aseptic technique, infection control practices, and laboratory safety standards.
• Maintain specimen integrity through proper handling, storage, and transportation.
• Float between inpatient and outpatient laboratory settings as needed.
• Participate in on-call coverage and every-other-weekend rotations.

To be considered for this position, you should have: [Skills, Education, or Experience]

• Active New York State Phlebotomy License/Registration (if applicable) or eligibility required at submission .
• Minimum 1 year of recent Phlebotomy experience in a hospital or outpatient laboratory.
• Epic EMR experience is required (Hard Requirement).
• Experience performing venipuncture using Vacutainer and syringe methods.
• Proficient in pediatric and adult specimen collection, including finger sticks and heel sticks.
• Knowledge of CLSI order of draw, blood collection tubes, specimen handling, and laboratory safety protocols.
• Experience processing laboratory specimens, including centrifuging, aliquoting, labeling, and storage.
• Ability to work with inpatient and outpatient populations.
• Willingness to float between departments and work on-call as required.
• Availability to work a combination of day, evening, and night shifts , including every other weekend .
