General Maintenance & HVAC Technician

Friends University is seeking to fill the General Maintenance & HVAC Technician position in Wichita Kansas. This position will be responsible for maintaining and repairing various mechanical systems, with a focus on heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems across campus. Including operations of a central heating plant utilizing steam and/or hot water for tempering or heating building, and a central chilled water plant to provide cooling to campus buildings. Work hours are typically 7:00 am to 4:00 pm Monday through Friday. May be required/requested to travel to off-campus sites as needed. On-call duty on a rotation basis. Working special events (graduation, homecoming, etc.) is required and 2nd shift as requested.

Qualifications:

• Two year's HVAC experience is required; three year's general maintenance experience is desired.
• A high school diploma or equivalent and EPA 608 Type Universal Certificate License to handle refrigerants is required.
• Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills are necessary.
• Must be able to work in all weather conditions and withstand extreme hot and cold working conditions, loud noise environments; lift 100 pounds; walk and/or stand for long periods of time, and climb, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl. Working in the boiler room requires being exposed to non-weather wet, humid conditions and extreme heat; working inside freezers requires being exposed to extreme non-weather cold. Position also requires work in high, precarious places, exposure to noxious odors, loud noises, airborne particles, vibration, and electrical shock.
• A valid driver's license is required for this position. A motor vehicle report will be run to verify insurability and to become an approved driver by the University's insurance carrier.
