Learn more at and on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram @audubonsociety. Position Summary Audubon seeks a motivated, dynamic individual to join its Working Lands Program in California’s Central Valley. The Senior Coordinator, Working Lands will work closely with program staff to assist in coordination of all aspects of habitat incentive projects including planning, implementation, monitoring, and reporting. The role will also support scientific research, public facing outreach, and partner coordination to advance Audubon’s conservation priorities in the Central Valley. This position reports to the Working Lands Program Director. In addition to the Working Lands team, the Senior Coordinator will work closely with a broad range of external partners, including farmers, wetland managers, local, state, and federal agencies, Audubon chapters, community members, and other conservation organizations. Audubon California’s Working Lands Program works throughout the Central Valley to advance policies and projects to improve habitat for the benefit of birds, enhance managed wetlands, ensure adequate flooded habitat for migratory birds, and overall improve the climate resilience habitat in the Central Valley. Hybrid Work Preference This position is classified as hybrid preferred. Hybrid employees are expected to work in an Audubon office every Monday and Tuesday and an additional two days each month of the employee’s choosing. Remote work within the United States may be considered only for candidates not within commuting distance of an Audubon office, in accordance with Audubon’s "Where We Work" Policy. Audubon offices include locations in: Sacramento, CA. Compensation $70,500 – $73,000 / year Essential Functions Partner with Working Lands staff to coordinate, track, and support reporting on habitat enhancement projects on Central Valley wetlands, farmlands, Tricolored Blackbirds, ecologically beneficial groundwater recharge, and other conservation programs. In close collaboration with the Working Lands team, support coordination of project planning and implementation, partner collaborations, reporting requirements, third‑party contracts under the direction of program manager. Contribute to drafting reports to inform adaptive program improvements. Conduct bird and other habitat monitoring at project sites and synthesize and communicate results to scientific and non‑scientific audiences to inform adaptive management and program learning. Support the establishment and maintenance of sensitive landowner relationships at private land enhancement or research sites through consistent communication, responsiveness, and trust‑building practices. In collaboration with the Working Lands Team, engage landowners, agencies, other NGOs, associations, and Audubon chapters to build partnerships that support shared conservation goals for Central Valley habitat. Support program staff in representing Audubon and the Working Lands program to external partners by preparing materials, participating in meetings, and sharing program information, which may include presentations, public speaking, and/or other interactions with external partners. Support grant writing and reporting by assisting with programmatic content, budgets, schedules, and reporting. Provide day‑to‑day coordination support across Working Lands projects, helping align timelines, responsibilities, and information sharing among team members and partners. Support a culture of philanthropy, including public funding efforts. Collaborate with colleagues across the Americas including through joint planning and execution of shared priorities. Maintain and foster a culture of safety. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications And Experience Bachelor’s degree in biology, ecology, natural resources management, or related field. Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. 3 years of experience supporting conservation planning, project development, and/or coordination across multiple partners and sites. Self‑starter with a strong collaborative work ethic and ability to work independently while operating within established project goals and direction. Ability to coordinate and support complex projects with a variety of partners and to meet deadlines is essential. Proficient in managing and summarizing biological and program participant datasets to support monitoring, reporting, and decision‑making by program staff. Strong project coordination skills, including but not limited to problem‑solving, time management, creating and maintaining collaborations with other organizations, developing public awareness activities, and preparing progress and performance reports, etc. Strong verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking, public presentation, and the ability to synthesize and communicate technical and complex information to both technical and non‑technical audiences. Ability to identify and estimate numbers of western waterbirds by sight using binoculars and a spotting scope; tricolored blackbirds by sight and sound, western passerine species by sight and sound. (preferred but not essential, depending on project need) A working knowledge of ArcGIS, comfort using a GPS unit and a mapping system through ArcGIS Field Maps and Survey 1‑2‑3 preferred. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) required. A flexible approach to work and willingness to take on new projects or tasks as needed in collaboration with a team. Ability to engage in strenuous outdoor activity, carry field equipment and endure outdoor field conditions including cold and wet winter weather and extreme heat with or without accommodation. Willingness to conduct in‑state travel and work evenings and weekends as job responsibilities demand. Valid driver’s license required and access to reliable transportation for getting to work sites.
