Cross Country Nurses is seeking a travel nurse RN PCU - Progressive Care Unit for a travel nursing job in Alexandria, Virginia. Job Description & Requirements Specialty: PCU - Progressive Care Unit Discipline: RN Start Date: 10/05/2026 Duration: 16 weeks 36 hours per week Shift: 12 hours, days Employment Type: Travel Job Summary: Progressive Care Unit (PCU) registered nurses are vital in providing specialized monitoring and care for patients with various medical conditions, including stroke, chest pain, arrhythmias, and post-surgical recovery. Located at the healthcare provider, this role involves floating across multiple units within the facility, supporting patient needs through flexible staffing assignments. The position requires proficient assessment skills and the ability to respond effectively to patient changes. Job Details: Schedule: 12-hour shifts, starting at 7:00 a.m. with clock-in by 6:53 a.m. and clock-out by 7:23 a.m., minimum of 36 hours per week. Required Qualifications: 2 years of experience as a registered nurse, Certifications in AHA Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS). Must have neuro assessment proficiency, cardiac drip experienceincluding Cardizem, Amiodarone, and Heparinand Epic electronic health record experience. Prior travel nursing experience required. Ability to read and interpret strips and pass ECG exam. Preferred Qualifications: Experience working with telemetry monitors and interpreting EKGs. Float: Float rotation may be required between Progressive Care Unit, telemetry, and medical/surgical floors, including potential but rare float to Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for lower acuity holds or Emergency Room to manage boarders. Patient Care: Typical patient ratios are 1:4 to 1:6 depending on the unit, with 1:8-11 patient care techs. Common patient diagnoses include stroke, chest pain, arrhythmias, post-surgical recovery, altered mental Status (status), dehydration, acute kidney injury (AKI), congestive heart failure (CHF), and sepsis. Equipment & Monitors: Familiarity with Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP), high flow oxygen, and telemetry monitors, with skills to increase oxygen or respond to clinical situations; must interpret monitor strips and perform EKGs. Shift & Scheduling: Self-scheduling is not available; scheduling is managed by the administrative assistant to meet hospital needs. Flexibility to work where needed and overtime opportunities are available. Weekend & Holiday Requirements: Minimum of 4 weekend shifts in a 6-week period, with holiday coverage if needed. Other Requirements: Navy scrubs, titration of drips, orientation includes 3 shifts on different units plus general facility orientation. No cancellation penalty; shifts can be canceled twice in 12 weeks or less, or three times in more than 13 weeks without penalty.
