Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Medical-Surgical/Telemetry Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 18 months Med/Tele RN experience required License: Active RN License Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: - 18 months Med/Tele RN experience - BLS, ACLS, NIHSS certification Description: The facility comprises 301 licensed beds with a focus on general medical/surgical patients. Common diagnoses include stroke, congestive heart failure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, diabetes, and post-surgical care. The average patient census on the unit is 22, with a bed capacity of 35. Patient-to-RN ratios are typically 1:5-6, depending on acuity, with possible increases to 1:7-8 during surge staffing. LPNs, if applicable, will have a ratio of 1:5, and CNAs will be 1:10. Required skills include post-operative care, orthopedic experience, and management of total parenteral nutrition. General Med/Tele skillset must include stroke experience, cardiac rhythm interpretation, and tracheostomy care. Additional responsibilities involve medication management, including cardiac drips and blood products. Support staff includes CNAs and respiratory therapists. The department has 24/7 hospitalists and intensivists available. Telemetry monitoring is available, but RNs will read their own telemetry strips when floated to other units. RNs may be required to float within the region and to other facilities based on the needs of the organization. Travelers will be expected to work 75% of holidays and every other weekend. Requests for time off can be approved up to 6 days, excluding holidays. Teamwork is emphasized within the unit culture.
