Maintenance Mechanic (Monday- Friday 3pm - 11pm shift)

Maintenance MechanicIn compliance with New Jersey's Pay Transparency Law, the negotiated annual salary range for this position is: $61,409 to $74,687. Salaries for internal applicants will be based on union negotiated calculations. This position may also be eligible for a comprehensive benefits package, including health and dental insurance, a retirement plan and benefits for work life balance.Reports To: Director of Facilities (or designee)Job Goal To perform skilled and semi-skilled work involving the maintenance, repair, and upkeep of district buildings, grounds, equipment, and systems to ensure safe, clean, and functional learning environments.Responsibilities The Maintenance Mechanic shall perform duties including, but not limited to:General Maintenance & RepairsPerform preventative and corrective maintenance in one or more of the following trades: Carpentry Masonry Electrical Painting Plumbing Locksmith services HVAC Grounds maintenance Inventory ControlDiagnose and repair mechanical, structural, and equipment-related issues.Perform minor electrical, plumbing, and HVAC repairs within scope of training.Respond to emergency maintenance situations and take appropriate corrective action.Work Orders & InspectionsComplete assigned work orders accurately and in a timely manner.Assist in routine inspections of facilities, systems, and equipment.Report unsafe conditions, needed repairs, and code compliance concerns.Equipment & InventoryMaintain tools, equipment, and vehicles in safe operating condition.Conduct daily vehicle inspections, when applicable.Maintain inventory of supplies and assist with stock control.Safety & ComplianceFollow all district safety procedures, OSHA standards, and applicable regulations.Use and maintain appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards.Collaboration & SupportWork collaboratively with other maintenance staff, custodians, and administrators.Refer specialized or complex repairs to appropriate skilled trades personnel.Assist with district events, snow removal, and emergency operations as needed.Technology & ReportingUtilize computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) or other systems to track work orders, inventory, and maintenance activities.OtherAttend required training and professional development.Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Facilities or designee.Must be able to perform all essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.QualificationsHigh school diploma or GED requiredValid New Jersey Driver's License requiredTrade school certification OR minimum of two (2) years' experience in building maintenance or skilled trades (or equivalent combination totaling three years)Working knowledge of two or more building trades preferredDemonstrated mechanical aptitude and ability to use tools and equipment safelyBasic computer skills and ability to use maintenance/work order systemsAbility to read, write, and communicate effectivelyAbility to follow written and verbal instructionsStrong attention to detail and problem-solving skillsAvailability to work overtime, weekends, or emergency shifts as neededRequired criminal history background check and eligibility to work in the United States.Must meet New Jersey First Act residency requirements (N.J.S.A. 52:14-7).Ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.Alternatives to the above qualifications may be substituted as deemed appropriate by the Board of Education.Physical RequirementsAbility to lift and carry up to 50 poundsAbility to climb ladders up to 20 feetAbility to perform physical labor in indoor and outdoor environments, including inclement weatherSufficient manual dexterity to operate tools and equipmentAbility to stand, walk, bend, and reach for extended periodsWorking ConditionsExposure to varying weather conditionsExposure to noise, dust, chemicals, and mechanical hazardsWork may involve heights, confined spaces, and heavy equipmentMust be able to work independently and as part of a teamThe Physical Abilities and Other Conditions of Continued Employment listed in this section are representative but are not intended to provide an exhaustive list of Physical Abilities and Other Conditions of Continued Employment which may be required of this position.
