Senior Principal Software Engineer

At Technical Strategy and Oversight (TSO) organization, our mission is to support customer choice, transparency, and value when it comes to cloud infrastructure. We’re embarking on ambitious new initiatives such as canonical implementation of core components for data planes. We are hoping to enhance engineering efficiency by concentrating our expertise on building low level systems with high performance that can be adopted by our core cloud services across OCI.

For this role, we are looking for technical leaders to build and deliver a key-value store that supports billions of keys and millions of requests per second at sub-millisecond latencies. This an exciting opportunity to deliver a new OCI service from scratch and work with senior architects and leaders at OCI. You must be self-motivated engineer with passion and expertise in solving challenging system, data-plane level and performance problems. You should be a rock solid developer able to dive deep into low-level systems, design broad distributed system interactions for high performance, high scale data-planes. You should value simplicity and scale, work comfortably in a collaborative, agile environment, and be excited to learn.

Responsibilities

We are seeking a Relational Database Automation Senior Principal Engineer to design and build the next-generation platform responsible for managing one of the world's largest fleets of Oracle databases.

This role focuses on safely automating the full lifecycle of mission-critical database environments, including provisioning, cluster creation, replication, safe and reliable failover, monitoring, diagnostics, configuration management, performance tuning, workload / heat management, patching, upgrades, backup and recovery, and operational remediation.

The successful candidate will help modernize and evolve an existing platform while designing a new automation architecture in Java that can scale database operations across more than 100 OCI regions with minimal human intervention.

This is not an application development role. Success is measured by operational scalability, automation, reliability, and the ability to safely manage mission-critical Oracle database fleets at global scale.

What You'll Do

• Design large-scale database fleet management and automation, including workflows and orchestration.
• Build systems that automate database provisioning, upgrades, patching, replication, monitoring, diagnostics, and lifecycle management.
• Develop automation frameworks that reduce operational dependence on manual DBA processes.
• Define operational standards for reliability, observability, governance, and database lifecycle management.
• Lead modernization efforts that transition existing operational systems to highly automated platforms.
• Design safe migration strategies for mission-critical production environments.
• Improve scalability and operational efficiency across a rapidly growing global database footprint.
• Partner with engineering and operations teams to ensure safe deployment and operation of database infrastructure.
• Drive technical direction for database automation, fleet management, and operational excellence initiatives.
