Hoffman Mechanical Solutions is hiring HVAC Service Technicians for territory-wide openings supporting light commercial and industrial air conditioning equipment with a strong emphasis on customer service and field-based support. This territory-wide field role supports preventive maintenance, start-up, warranty, and repair services on light commercial and industrial air conditioning equipment with a focus on customer satisfaction. Preventive Maintenance & Start-Up Territory Wide Availability The primary purpose of the HVAC Service Technician is to provide preventative maintenance, start-up, warranty, and repair services on light commercial and industrial air conditioning equipment, with a strong emphasis on customer service and responsive field support. Company Hoffman Mechanical Solutions Status Full Time, Non-Exempt Reports To Service Manager or Manager of Technical Operations Schedule Monday – Friday, based on customer needs Preventative Maintenance, Start-Up, Warranty, And Repair The HVAC Service Technician role focuses on providing preventative maintenance, start-up support, warranty service, and repair work on light commercial and industrial air conditioning equipment across customer facilities. This position supports emergency response and occasional after-hours call-outs as needed to provide timely and reliable HVAC service while maintaining a strong emphasis on customer satisfaction. HVAC Service Technicians perform customer-facing technical work in a variety of environments, supporting routine HVAC service, troubleshooting, repair, and documentation while representing HMS in a professional manner. Service a variety of HVAC products and equipment and ensure customer satisfaction. Read and understand blueprints, equipment manuals, and engineering specifications in order to properly diagnose and repair units. Use a variety of hand-tools and specialty equipment typical of the commercial HVAC service trade. Identify, analyze, diagnose, and repair systems and products at customer locations. Survey customer sites for properly operating equipment and report any deficiencies found, providing sales leads to internal associates as necessary. Perform preventative maintenance, site surveys, replacement, and modifications as needed or requested by customers. Prepare in advance for on-site installation and repairs by examining building layout, anticipating difficulties, gathering materials, and coordinating various trades for on-site work. Diagnose and troubleshoot inoperable equipment and develop action plans for repairs and problem resolution. Determine replacement parts required, secure materials, and complete repairs on a timely basis, returning any non-used or refundable parts for credit. Interact face-to-face with customers to ensure proper and accurate communication. Document all work performed by accurately completing field service reports, equipment log sheets, and related documentation. Complete and submit all required paperwork on a timely basis. Operate and be diligent in properly caring for and maintaining a company vehicle. Provide technical support to customers as needed. Remain flexible to work overtime and weekends as necessary in order to meet customer requirements. Support limited travel requirements, which may include occasional overnight stays. Stay informed on industry news and trends, products, services, competitors, and relevant information about existing and emerging technologies, including new product‑line developments and company training seminars. Knowledge, Experience, And Critical Skills Qualified HVAC Service Technician candidates bring technical education, field experience, computer skills, and the ability to communicate clearly in one‑on‑one and small group situations. Associate’s Degree or equivalent from a Technical / Trade School with a certificate in Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning. Minimum of five (5) years of related experience preferred. Operational knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office software preferred. Ability to read, comprehend, and write simple instructions and short correspondence, and to effectively present information in one‑on‑one and small group situations. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals, and to compute rate, ratio, and percentages. Ability to understand data presented in graphical formats such as pie charts and bar graphs. Ability to recognize problems and develop the most cost‑effective solution, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Must pass pre‑hire requirements including background check, motor vehicle report, and drug screening. Must possess a valid driver’s license. Must possess EPA mandated card for safe refrigerant handling; universal certification preferred. Physical Demands And Work Environment The HVAC Service Technician role requires regular field activity, including standing, walking, tool use, lifting, and work in indoor and outdoor mechanical environments with varying conditions and noise levels. Regularly required to stand, use hands to finger, grasp, handle, or feel, talk, and hear. Frequently required to walk, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl, with occasional sitting. Regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Requires close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Includes frequent work outdoors, inside mechanical and equipment rooms, and in possible extreme weather conditions. Regular exposure to live voltage, moving mechanical parts, heavy equipment, wet and/or humid conditions, elevated or precarious work places, fumes or airborne particles, and outside weather conditions. Exposure risk to electrical shock and vibration, with occasional exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, and extreme heat. Typical work environment noise level is loud.
