L&I LABOR AND INDUSTRIES AUDITOR 3 (In-Training)

Job Title L&I Auditor 3 Job Overview The Department of Labor & Industries is seeking an individual to support the agency's mission of safeguarding the safety and health of Washington’s workforce. The L&I Auditor 3 position directly supports this mission by ensuring employers carry industrial insurance and pay the correct premiums. Auditors conduct audits of business financial records, perform on‑site visits, evaluate risk classifications, and prepare audit findings reports. Salary Range L&I Auditor 1: $4,108 – $5,506 per month L&I Auditor 2: $4,406 – $5,928 per month L&I Auditor 3: $4,866 – $6,542 per month Training & Level Selection Because of the required training, this role may be filled as an in‑training L&I Auditor 1, 2, or 3 level, depending on the qualifications of the successful candidate. Duties Identify businesses suspected of non‑compliance. Screen, schedule, coordinate, and conduct audits of business financial records. Evaluate and verify financial records. Conduct computer research on firm accounts with other agency programs. Review employment contracts and conduct fact‑finding interviews. Perform on‑site tours of employer’s facility and survey business activity to evaluate and document operations. Prepare audit findings reports. Prepare subpoenas and other legal documents as needed; testify at industrial insurance appeals and court proceedings. Post‑Training Responsibilities Learn and follow Field Audit Standard Audit Processes. Respond to internal and external inquiries about labor & industries reporting requirements and refer them to the appropriate parties. Eligibility & Qualifications Applicants must demonstrate a thorough understanding of and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and provide proof of at least 20 semester or 30 quarter hours of college credit accounting coursework, in conjunction with a bachelor’s degree. Professional level accounting or auditing experience may substitute, year for year, for the education; however, the 20 semester or 30 quarter hours requirement remains. Required Experience by Level L&I Auditor 1 At least 20 semester or 30 quarter hours of accounting coursework (may include one Finance or one Business Law class). Two (2) years of professional accounting or auditing experience. OR a Bachelor’s degree with the required accounting hours. L&I Auditor 2 At least 20 semester or 30 quarter hours of accounting coursework (may include one Finance or one Business Law class). Two (2) years of professional accounting or auditing experience. OR a Bachelor’s degree with the required accounting hours plus one (1) year of professional experience. L&I Auditor 3 At least 20 semester or 30 quarter hours of accounting coursework (may include one Finance or one Business Law class). Two (2) years of professional accounting or auditing experience. OR successful completion of the Labor & Industries Auditor Training Program. OR a Bachelor’s degree with the required accounting hours plus appropriate certification can substitute for one (1) year of required experience. Additional Attributes Ability to pursue continuous learning and professional growth. Ability to meet the needs of others. Desired Skills Strong knowledge of RCW Title 51, WAC 296‑17, and WAC 296‑17A.
