Description:
The Emergency Room Registered Nurse is responsible for providing high-quality, patient-centered care to individuals experiencing medical emergencies.
This role involves triaging, assessing, and providing immediate care in a fast-paced environment.
Emergency Room RNs work collaboratively with physicians, specialists, and other healthcare professionals to deliver rapid care for a wide range of medical conditions, from minor injuries to life-threatening emergencies.
Assess, delegate, coordinate, and evaluate the nursing care provided.
Ensure the provision of quality care for selected groups of patients through the utilization of the nursing process, established standards of care, policies, and procedures.
Be responsible for the direction and supervision of any personnel assigned.
Conduct thorough assessments of patients upon arrival, including vital signs, medical history, and current symptoms.
Prioritize patients based on the severity of their condition, ensuring that critical cases are attended to first.
Administer medications, intravenous fluids, and treatments as per physician orders.
Perform emergency procedures such as wound care and splinting.
Continuously monitor patients' vital signs and response to treatments, adjusting interventions as needed.
Work closely with the medical team, including physicians, nurse practitioners, and support staff.
Accurately record patient information, treatment plans, and responses to care in electronic health records or paper charts as required.
Provide patients and families with information regarding diagnoses, procedures, and follow-up care instructions.
Respond to rapid response calls, code blue situations, or any critical situation requiring immediate intervention.
Ensure that the patient's rights, dignity, and preferences are respected at all times while providing care.
Follow all infection control protocols to minimize the risk of infection for patients and healthcare staff.
Participate in ongoing evaluation of care quality and suggest improvements in processes or procedures to optimize patient outcomes.
Support the hospital mission, vision, values, policies, and procedures.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Must be able to perform a variety of duties often changing from one task to another without loss of efficiency or composure.
Accept responsibility for the direction, control, and planning of activities.
Make evaluations and decisions based on measurable or verifiable criteria.
Work independently and recognize the rights and responsibilities of patient confidentiality.
Convey empathy and compassion to those experiencing pain, grief, or trauma.
Relate to others in a manner that creates a sense of teamwork and cooperation.
Communicate effectively and therapeutically with people from every socioeconomic background.
Incorporate guest relations in daily activities.
Physical requirements include perceiving the nature of sounds, expressing ideas verbally, and perceiving characteristics of objects visually.
Must be able to lift 50 pounds maximum and frequently lift, carry, push, and pull objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
Continuous walking and standing are required, as is the ability to identify, match, and distinguish colors.
Working conditions include an inside environment, protected from the weather, but subject to frequent exposure to infection and hazardous materials.
The role involves navigating a variable noise level and rapid pace with multiple stimuli.
